Our first night on the road

Spent our first night on the GN road, free camped just south of Mt Gambier.  Had a visit from 2 other nomads who went out of their way to visit us all to briefly.  Shared a few stories and had a great laugh, thanks Firehheart and Biggles.  If these two represent the greater GN community then I cant wait to meet the rest of you.

Life is full of enjoyment - take each day as it comes - and GN's love to meet other GN's - sometimes it feels as if you have known them for ages when you do get to meet!!

Hi JenandGaz, I did warn you about the locals making a nuisance of themselves out there. It was lovely meeting you and hope that your travels continue to be fun and memorable.
Where did you end up getting to today?

Sharon

Hi there, we are a couple of GNs about ready to exit the home post code after a 7 month wait thanks so the usual first timers preps and then compounded by Mother Nature.  Retired end of October and finally decided on and bought 2011 Territory  Titanium and 2006 Coromal Silhouette. Got the solar, the genie and all the other stuff and just when ready, the January storms hit us  here in northern Nsw ....... Wind blew branch off tree onto van roof and there you have it, our first insurance claim on the van and all we had done was drive it around the backmyard!!! We both have many years in the insurance industry, so knew the system.  4 weeks to get reasonably minor repairs done and then school holidays and grand kids hit the arena! Now we are planning a couple of weeks shakedown trip to Brooms Head at the beginning of May to check out the power and other workings  then Goodbye North Coast.

We love reading all the posts from first time nomads and the responses ...... It is clear our concerns are shared by many and those that have gone before have provided the reassurance to get up and go! So far only problem we have encountered is one i believe shared by many ...... Ants!  Have tried most remedies submitted by other members and would be interested in any other suggestions. Obviously the canvas in the van n means we have to be careful of what preparation we use ..... You would think 30 years as a girl guide leader athey'll those canvas tents we have had to cope with would have convinced us not to go down the camper van or trailer road!

Looking forward now to serious planning and considering where and which direction our maiden trip will take ..... We will definitely be asking for suggestions about destinations in May.     Keep tuned

Chaslib

tO LIBBY AND CHARLIE, we are heading off on monday crossed fingers and toes, I am hearing you about things going wrong, we bought a Merc sprinter 6 months ago my husband who is semi retired has been doing it up, in between him, working, raining, damaged front passenger door ( somebody forgot to put on the handbrake),sickness, broken false teeth, doctors appointments, seLling our other Hi-ace camper delivering that it was an 8hr round trip, to Dunedoo. we are nearly ready to go. We are heading to Gloucester for our first night on the road, then Nundle and Barraba, Glen Inness, we will be heading towards Queensland Lamington NP, we will be heading north then hopefully we will get to Cooktown eventually all the best hopefully we might see you all on the road somewhere sometime.
