Used to be able to get Caw Books cheaper than else-where at your RACQ, NRMA etc. if you were a member. Haven't looked for a couple of years, but I don't see why it would be any different now.

I was in Dymocks Bookstore today and saw this publication, Camping Around Australia (spiral) which seems very similar to Camps Australia Wide.

It was priced at $44.95, less $4.50 for Seniors = $40.95

Does anyone use this publication and how do they find it, see;

They also had the Caravan Parks Australia Wide for $49.95, less Seniors discount of $5.00 = $44.95.

I did not price Camps 7 Spiral, I think it had about $59.95 on it, and if you are a senior get 10% off that or any other book in the store.

Must show a Seniors Card to get the discount.

Two days ago I purchased "Camp 7" was cheaper at BCF.
As for Camping Around Aust, I never come across, so cannot comment.

I had a look at the link you posted Vic, the Camping Around Australia seems to be literally camp-sites... but there are a couple of caravan books available too.

Don't know OJ, have you compared them both? I was wondering if someone has used the other one and how they found it in comparison, seems to be a clone of CAW from what I can see, it is the 2nd edition so it must have been around for a year or so...

Yes, it looks that way Gerty, I can't see that they have any Caravan Park guide though like CAW.

Seems like they may have set up in competition to CAW Camps books, looks almost a clone to me.

The prices are very similar.

I just bought CAW with snaps, most prices were $89.95. I got it for $80. The cheapest CAW was $49.95. I haven't seen at the other one, but CAW came highly recommended.

I have CAW 6, but I now regret getting the spiral one. One page is already coming adrift.

I don't think I'd bother buying another book. Between CAW, ozcamps, and caravancaravan I think I have it covered.

Not sure about Kindle but you can get this CAW partner Hema GPS, which has both CAW7 and Caravans Parks Australia Wide, also some apps for other things, see;

On the latest one (Camps 7) I think the spirals are plastic, whereas to old ones were wire, the later edition of Caravan Parks Australia Wide definitely have plastic spirals........Not sure if that would make a difference, but I think the pages could still tear off with either.

Opened up and all the small pieces from the spiral punch through fluttered all over the floor. laughs. Grr another vacuuming job coming up..
I did consider as to spiral or not but decided, if I treat the book right all will be ok.
Be good if there was a Kindle version.

I think the RAC/NRMA give 10% discount to members, however Dymocks Bookstores also give 10% to Seniors.....

Many moons ago, I did some gem fossicking at Oberon, NSW, when I could get my fingers to work, was dam cold. Also for gold around Sofala NSW and around the Meekathara/Mt Augustus area in WA.....still a pauper though cry

I had another look at the Camping Around Australia book again while there, it seems that it is a combination of camping spots and caravan parks, maps are very small and hard to read (for me anyway) and also the numbered spots are not easy to read for someone with poor eyesight.Â Â Will stick with Camps Australia Wide....

Just a correct regards RAC, they give 15% off for members, not 10%, not sure what their CAW7 is priced at though. Their RAC Accomodation Guide is free to members, the 2013 Guide is available soon according to their website.

Still like the hard copy too, just in case there is poor or no satellite coverage where I may be. I do have Camps on my Garmin GPS though.

it dosen't really find the satellite it finds the azumith angle of the dish in relation to the satellite, you then need to find the sat by turning the dish until it picks up a signal.

I'll stick to my sat finder for that job, and just use wikicamps for sites etc, with wikicamps if you find a site that is not on there you can insert it but you have to be a registered user.

Heading (Somewhere) near Maryborough Vic for a week or so; depends on how much gold I find. laughs.
After, slowly into NSW for anzac Day with mates from my Platoon.
Then (somewhere) (laughs..) round Inverell.
I enjoy scratching around especially for Sapphires. Last time I was in Sapphire Qld, went to Tomahawk creek; found nice party colour Sapphires.
Now and then I drive to Harts Range for Zircons.

I used to live with some people at Nambucca Heads. Under the house was a large area devoted to lapidary - machines for cutting, shaping, polishing, etc. Fascinating stuff. They made rings from various stones such as zircon and sold them at local markets. Every now and then they would go some place to look for stones. I never went but wish I had. I could have learned a thing or two about a great hobby.
