thankyou for your reply Jimbo. I will never leave Australian shores so this was a wonderful opportunity for me to see how a live American tv production was done. It was a good excuse for me to have a holiday in Melbourne also. Went to Sovereign Hill and a puffing billy train ride without the puffing, got a diesel instead - disappointing. Going to the show was an unusual thing to do and that makes me happy.

I'm surprised at some of the comments, although I suppose not.

Why should Ellen's gender or sexuality cloud the fact that she presents good entertainment, the content of which is not hurtful, scandalous or the usual rubbish?

I'm with you R&R. Ellen's success has zilch to do with sexuality and/or country of origin. As to American cultural influence in this country, try watching our TV without seeing American programs, or going to the movies without seeing an American film, or turning on the radio without hearing American music, or going to a fast food restaurant without American style food, or buying clothes that are not influenced by American fashion. Australia's "own" cars are General Motors and Ford.

As to phobias, all phobias are irrational fears.

There, I feel better now.

I judge a person on who they are not what label one gives a person.

I'm with you 100 per cent Gary.  Totally unneccessary in my opinion.

K.D. Lang, the singer comes to mind as another great talent, along with Elton John.

I suppose it relates to a question of if life offers you a chance of happiness do you take it, or do you remain miserable because some in society expect you to comply with their perception of what is right and wrong?

I'll be they wouldn't give up their chance to be happy if in the same circumstances and gender orientation.

As long as anybody whatever their choices are not hurting others why shouldn't take the path that suits them best.

(off the soap box now).

PS:  I'm madly in love (fantasy at my age I know) with one of our female newsreaders in the West who has a female partner, would even consider a sex change if I was young enough and had a chance with her......so I'll just have to drool over her instead......wink biggrin

I'm glad you had a great time inMelbourne Rocket. Sometimes you just have to do something for the heck of it don't you? I like Ellen and I was here in Melbourne I just don't like crowds unfortunately. I remember on a trip to LA years back my daughter insisted I had to go to Disneyland. I was travelling with a girlfriend (no children) and I said why would I do that with no kids? We did go and boy am I glad I did. It was a great experience and something I'll remember forever. Glad you enjoyed your experience.
