electric heater in office or gas heater that is the question

I'm getting my gas fixed in the next couple weeks ,got to get that little thing that you

turn the gas tanks over, repaird, so while I got the plumber in fixing that I'm thinking

about asking to put a gas link in my office, it gets bloody cold here in winter and i do like my

flight siming , am I better to run a small heater on ,with thurmostate or do this thing with the gas

heating , its not a reall big room but the gas from the lounge room wont follow thru , kind of like an od L shaped house

ie old ex housing if you know what i mean..

any ideas ?

If you are paying aroung $100 for a gas cylinder, a small reverse cycle aircon may work out cheaper. It does at my place...

It would also pay to insulate the ceiling with batts too.

Burning gas creates fumes so unless you get a "U" beaut Read (Expensive) flued heater you have to have a decent airflow from outside.

Not sure what a decent gas heater suitable would cost these days.Might be well worth a bit of Googling to get a price comparison for a reverse cycle air conditioner against a decent gas flued heater.

There is an alternative which is not widely known.

Bio-ethanol  heaters which are portable from room to room, and produces the equivalent of two candles burning of CO2 which is pretty good.

Also great for camping as it is portable.See the attached link.

Just an alternative and at under $200 not too bad.

Not only do unflued gas heaters produce fumes they somehow produce a lot of condensation and the windows have water running down making little puddles on the windowsill. Everything in the room will feel damp after a while of using it.
We compared costs and electric heating is cheaper than gas if you are on gas cylinders, gas is cheaper if you are on natural gas.
A reverse-cycle air-con is the way to go... they are cheaper to run for the amount of heat than portable ones and you have the added benefit of the cooler if you are dying in the summer heat.

Yuglamron, have you got one of these yourself?   Where do you buy the ethanol fuel for it, is it a special type of ethanol and how expensive is the fuel ?

I haven't bought one yet ,I have beem looking at the range and have looked at the fuel. Although they call it Bio-ethanol it's sold as methylated spirits available pretty much every where. That surprised me when I checked it out on the website thought it was going to be some U beaut stuff.

The one I have been looking at seems to be basically a metal box 85x45x 25 with two glass panels. Can be moved around and placed on a table or even the floor. Must be the way the fuel is burnt.

They have some that look like an ultra modern fireplace and you just place it up against a wall and it looks like a built in fireplace.

Try this site and see some of the alternatives available fro Table top to the one I mentioned that you place against a wall.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Yug,

The round one shown on page 2 of 4 down the bottom right hand corner (on the 2nd link you gave) I saw somone with a tent had one of them outside there tent sitting around it like a camp fire, wondered what it was but didn't have a chance to ask them.

I don't think I would be game to have one inside a van though.

Beginning to get that point of view myself, Not a lover of open flames inside the MH /Van idea.

I much prefer to cook outside when possible.

Handy things though for tabletops outside.
