oodnadatta track

HI all

We are heading north up through the centre in the next couple of weeks and would like to go via the oodnadatta track. Has anyone been along there recently if so how is the road.Is it suitable to pull a caravan or is it too rough.

Regards Rastas

Hi Rastas

Haven't travelled the track lately, but it is usually OK for most of its length as long as you drive to conditions. You could call William Creek Pub and enquire about it. Late last year we came down from Coober Pedy to Maree and it was very good except for about 10 km each side of William Creek where it was pretty corrugated. Have been up it each year for the past 8 years and normally OK but do not go if it has been raining or rain forecast as it becomes very slippery

We took the mail bus up there from Coober Pedy in 2011... very, very rough! There had been a lot of rain about a week or 2 before, there were  lots of pot-holes of varying depth as well as corrugations.
Try asking/emailing the visitors centre at Coober Pedy or even at the Pink Roadhouse at Oodnadatta, they'll have up to date info.

Edit... I should say the mail bus driver dove a lot faster than we would!

We did the oodna last July, took 11 days from maree to marla, including a side trip to dalhouse springs and another to painted desert.  Roads were corrugated in parts, but our kedron atv handled it well.  We did not see too many vans in the 11 days, but those we did see were all off roaders.  You did not say what your tug and tow are
