Can we strip a town of it's RV Friendly status?

Yesterday I drove into Forbes NSW feeling weary and in need of somewhere to park for the night.  Now admittedly my budget is tight and my Camps book a bit out of date, however I went to the Forbes Lions Park in the hopes of parking for the night. First thing I noticed was, no-one there!  Next thing I noticed was the sign, No Camping, No overnight parkingfurious. I guess another caravan park owner has got itself elected to council.  But I never stay in caravan parks, so I took my fuel & food money and headed out of Dodge (Forbes). Anger kept me awake till I reached the Marsden RA 70km south. The bush camping behind the RA is shady & green and there's lots of water in the creek. In fact, I think I'll stay a day before tackling the Hay Plain. Bit of road noise today but last night was quiet, and I'll put it on my list of good free camps.smile

First thing I noticed was, no-one there! Next thing I noticed was the sign, No Camping, No overnight parking.

A park for no one! I'd like to be in the "No!" sign business... No Parking, No Dogs, No Swimming, No Loitering, No Skateboarding, No Littering, No Fishing, No Alcohol, No Camping, No Nuthin.

I free-camp frequently at Forbes and have done so for many years .. at one end there is a day section where the toilets are and the other end is where you can park overnight.

Its (apparently) for self-contained-vehicles, but unless they are going to inspect your van they have no idea if you are self- contained or not ..

I will be camping there in about a weeks time actually ..

Locals keep a close watch on the area too .. never had a problem either ..

Gday...

I think you got caught out as others have too.

I believe the Forbes Lions Park is NOT for camping it is just a Rest Area. The difference between Camps5, 6 & 7 help to confuse I think.

This post was put up by Yeoeleven not that long ago ... if you read it through you will see you were probably on the wrong side of the road. (hopefully cry)

We've stayed there several times . 100 metres past the Lions park is the freecamp area . Along side the lake .

RVFT is a CMCA thing . They are the only people that can cancel the agreement with a local council .

Ok folks, I stand corrected. The Lions park is off-limits, as is the first section of Wheogo park next door to the Lions park, BUT, the furthest part of Wheogo park is indeed approved for free overnight stays, and is very nice. My apologies Forbes, but could you signpost it a little clearer for fools like me who occasionally leave finding a camp-spot till after dark? Oh, and I did spend some of my cash in Forbes next morning smile

Gerty Dancer , To be approved as a RVFT , the town must have :

Parking area for RVs , close to a shopping centre ( eg. supermarket ) .

Cheap / free overnight parking for self-contained RVs .

Potable water .

Dump point within the local area .

 

Also desirable is access to medical facilities and a Pharmacy .

Longer term cheap / free parking for self-contained RVs within a 5km radius of the town .

Information Centre .

 

Approval from CMCA . ( It is their scheme ) .

I have stayed at Forbes overnight too. Its just past the park with the dump point and is a beautiful place to stop. At night the lights from the town shimmer across the water giving the impression of a night time high rise complex.

I too had been confused in the past when I thought the first part of the park was the one I should be overnight parking in. Took me till the next year to find the right one.
