Road access to The Grawin Opal Fields

Hi. Just wondering if anyone has recently entered The Grawin Opal fields, about 80klms west of Lightning Ridge. If so what was the road like, and was it suitable for taking a Caravan which IS NOT off road?? Any feedback appreciated. KB

Road is sealed from Cumborah to the turnoff to Grawin fields, so only a few kms of unsealed from there to Grawin and then a multitude of tracks through the fields.

It is a couple of years since we were there, but the tracks were fine then.

Where are you intending to stay with the van? No caravan parks on the fields.

Thanks 4 your reply. I was there January 2012, and it was unsealed from Cumborah to the fields, because we had to divert around the flooded lake. The road at that time had more rough spots than my mother in law. Well almost!! It does sound though that a caravan may not be a wise move. Might bunk down in the Hilton container bunks, and enjoy their deep hole ensuite!!.KB
