Well, we have done a lot of freecamping (no power) this trip and yes, it's fine but when it also includes no internet cos there's no signal, then it isn't so fine. I've really missed reading all the posts on the forum and because it is such an active forum it takes forever to catch up when you've been 'offline' for a few days. We're glad to be back.
We have taken to using Telstra mobile wifi and are only off line if there is no signal.
It cost about $79, and is prepaid, so we only use it on the road... no plan. Although, if we are planning a lot of travel we put 12 months worth on it, as its better value.
It is re-chargable- so we charge it using the jumpstarter from supercheap auto which we carry to recharge our phones, ipads and lantern.
You can have up to 5 devices on the internet at any one time, so both of us use it and there's no "discussion"
You don't have to physically "plug in" your device, so you can use the internet outside the van, as long as the wifi is switched on.
I know what you mean Ruth. After having a couple of days in hospital again, I'm still trying to catch up.
I couldn't get network in Mystery Bay...just 'down the road' from you Ruth...but as I walked around the camp area I found network beside a tree with a ribbon tied around it. So I figured someone had marked it for that reason.

Not quite home yet Dougwe. Mind you, only about 40 mins down the road! Yes Gerty, exactly what I meant. In a freecamp tonight and no problems with signal. Rip and Rosie, it's not the internet I had a problem with but a signal from NextG for either mobile phones (which I use to connect) and so internet. If I walked a mile up a dirt track I could get 1 bar of signal - but the mossies ate me alive - our 'neighbour' would take his laptop up there on his pushbike!!! Never mind, it did me good to be back the way it used to be before we had any contact. Remember when we used to have to find a public telephone to ring the kids???
