we have a evacool we put in the vehicle when on the road. In the van we a a 3 way that was getting on a bit and didnt like the trip from perth to broome so whilr stationary we have put a bar fridge in. Before we move on from broome (here for a couple of years) will be putting straight 12 volt as we have 4 80w panels on the van and two 130 a/h batteries. What ever you get make sure it is tropical rated.
cheers

Totally agree with you Blaze, after our last trip to Darwin, I've ditched the 3 way fridge which I consider useless, and have installed a dometic cl140 compressor fridge which is tropical rated.

We have a Thetford fridge/freezer in our van. It's a 3 way but has a switch to turn on when in humid areas, it turns a fan on to circulate the cold air. Plus there is another switch to defrost the freezer is it ices up. They tested it to -17' for the freezer and 3' for the fridge.

There is nothing wrong with a modern absorption fridge. Even those with a climate rating of ST will give a good performance except for when the ambient temperature exceeds 38 degrees. T rated fridges will still run well when the temperature is over 40 degrees.

Poor performance is generally the fault of the fridge installation. I don't know why people spend well over $1,000 for compressor fridges when a competent repair place could alter the cabinet work for a few hundred dollars and get the fridge working as it was designed.

I have a Dometic RM2453, it works well and I will stick with it.

Welcome Juniior. Ours is a 3way Dometic. Works as well on gas as electricity. Sometimes I think even better.

Thanks everyone having a WEACO 12/24 installed. Here's to it performing as advertised.
