Also check what their policy is on your home being unoccupied while you are traveling ( if this is the case with you ). A lot of companies are refusing new policies if you tell them you are going to be away for long periods. Not telling them can void your policy anyway.

In life it is important to know when to stop arguing with people
and simply let them be wrong.
Like everyone else, I am always trying to spend as little as possible on items I need (or must have). However, when it comes to insurance, on anything, the only way to choose is to make sure the company provide you with their Product Disclosure Document and a Policy Document.
Read these very carefully. Read, and understand, the 'events' that are covered by the policy and more importantly, read, and understand, the 'events' that are NOT covered.
Additionally, check the claim values for each item that will be covered under their "accepted events".
Now you will have a fairly good idea of what you will get for your outlay.
Obtain quotes from other companies and repeat the above process regarding Product Disclosure and Policy Documents.
Do not make your decision on price (well, not on price alone) but on what you will be covered for and that that cover includes the things you want/need covered AND to the value that is representative of the items.
Your question on here regarding comment/advice on the "claim setttlement history" of a company is also a very valuable criteria.

I live on a hill and SGIO hit me with compulsory flood cover this year
My house is also on a hill, and before January 26 I would have said it's not possible for it to flood (in fact I said as much to AAMI when I queried the price hike on renewal). But the water came to within 6" of the foundations, and the rivers covered many kilometres of land that has never seen flooding since settlement. My sheds went under, and just for the things stored in them the flood cover is worth it.

Given the way they looked after me when my whole house and contents was destroyed by fire, I will stick with AAMI regardless. The personal case manager, the respect and empathy, the prompt service; everything you could ask for in difficult times and there wasn't much diff in the premiums

Thanks all for the input. I am pretty savvy when buying insurance and stuff, but was hoping that someone may have had dealings with them so I could gauge their reliability.
The quotes I got varied up to $1800 (NRMA) down to $ 800 from woolworths for pretty much the same cover.
