Thank you, I am most interested. Is this "thumper" a rechargeable" system that can be used as a portable 12 volt power supply? Please supply more info so that I may contact the Adelaide supplier. Ta, KB
Yes 12volt .... will go now and have a look if i can find the web page ,so just hang around for a few mins and i will get back to you
The people who i went through was a family run business in Mount Barker Adelaide SA called Battery World .My son brought one of these Thumpers at a garage sale up here in QLD a few months ago as the guy who owned it had passed away, so you know the old storey the kids just flog every thing off for the $$$$ ,because it had been sitting for over 3 years, he thought he would put new batteries in it ,so he rang these good people over there and they sent the new batteries via courier to his door at no charge ,only had to pay for the batteries .just remember if you get the Thumper make sure you get enough lead ,so you can take it out of vehicle.

I have a 2006 ST-L 4.8 Litre Petrol Automatic, and am wanting to fit an auxiliary battery underneath the bonnet, to power things like fridge, phones, CB etc.
Has anyone done this modification, and if so, where abouts did you position the battery. OR did you have to resort to fitting it in the back of the vehicle??
G'day I have 2005 Patrol with canopy and it is deisel, I have fitted additional battery on the oppisite side to existing battery, there is plenty of room.
My second battery is used for fridge in ute and excess charge through Anderson plug to batteries in caravan with the help of an inline charger or booster.
The fridge in van and electric brakes are operated by main battery when ignition is on. You need a duel battery system isolator so that 2nd battery does not discharge main battery.
I have just upgraded my system to incorporate Anderson wiring and Auto electrician said the caravan fridge and elec brakes must be wired to main battery for safety reasons. Once ignition is off then caravan fridge should be run from gas or solar. Hopes this is of use.
I have a Toyota Landcruiser, and did not wont the extra battery under the bonnet,so i brought what is called a thumper and had it connected from in the cargo area , just inside the opening of the rear entry. When i had it installed i got anough lead to be able to pop it out side the crusier if i needed when camped or what ever the reson. They are made in Adelaide ,but batterie i have ever owned.Would not even think of buying another kind.I have had mine for over 4 years and never let me down once.A lot of the pro fishermen use them on their fishing boats. They do not come real cheap, but compeared to other batteries , they end up paying for them self over a period of a few years.

I feel your pain, I too have a Patrol TI with 4.8, there simply isn't room under the bonnet for another battery. However I did see on one of the Off Road shows (sorry can't remember which one) there is a battery that can be mounted underneath the vehicle and can be placed upside down or laying on it's side and be squeezed into any suitable space, obviously a cradle will have to be fashioned, but what I saw on this show there seems to be plenty of unused space under the vehicle.
Sorry I can't be more specific, but maybe one of the off road shops may know more about this type of battery system.
Hope this helps a little.
