Breakdown services

Try the Winnebago RV club.

You do not have to own a Winnebago to join.

The following link will give you access to the site and you can get all the details from there.

All the best

Colin

Hi, we are new to this forum, so here's hoping someone out there can help us.

We have rang RACQ To see about road side coverage in case of breakdown, thave told told us they cannot cover the vehicle that we are getting as it is to big for them to service. We are getting a HINO RAINBOW bus that has been decked out. Please if anyone know who we can go through please let us know.

Thank you for your help

Julie,
I understand that if you are in the CMCA you can insure with Ken Tame and he will I understand cover you for up to $1,000 worth of towing a year, Not sure but APIA may do the same and there are others.

More comments about this on:

We bought our Coaster from a Winnebago dealer and intended to join the Winnebago Club. However, they have an age limit for vehicles they will accept for assistance. Our 96 bus is too old. So, we have insurance with Ken Tame, which can help with towing if we break down but have not found anyone who does breakdown roadside assistance on bigger vehicles.

I had the same problem when I bought my new motorhome last year.  Even though I had been a member of RACV for years they didn't want to know me.  Same with Toyota, even though it was a brand new Hilux.  They all said they didn't cover vehicles that big.

As a result I did some research on the net and found a company by the name of 24/7 Roadservices.  Their cover is Australia wide and a lot cheaper than the RACV, etc.  It costs me $55 per year.  Their web site is www.247roadservices.com.au

I have just paid for ultimate cover with RACQ.  My vehicle is 4.5 ton, but they assure me they will cover it for breakdown.  The only condition is that they will only pay for towing for 250 klms.  I spent about an hour on the phone to the guy making sure that he knew the size of the vehicle and that everything was covered.  He even checked with his supervisor to make sure he had it right, so RACQ must be a bit different to RACV Janno.

Cheers!

Chris

We were told by RACQ that our Motorhome was also too big for service,I am a gold member with top coverage. Just recently coming back from a trip I got a flat tyre on the rear duals, first flat tyre we've had,not a problem, spare in good nick, jack ok,wheel brace yep, undo wheelnuts not a chance, been put on by a rattle gun. So I rang NRMA (happened in NSW) told them my problem they took my RACQ details and had a service guy there within hour. He struggled to undo nuts but he pulled out a long lever bar which we finally undone nuts (both of us on the bar), so thanks to NRMA. Check your wheelnuts with your tyre distributor to make sure they have correct tension and are not overtightened. I don't know what would have happened if they said no,we were in the middle of no where. So I now carry a very long bar,and I just put 6 new tyres on it, because I thought well that was one there will be more.

Have rung NRMA and can cover roadside assist through them, it costs a bit more as it is in a different category, but will be worth it in the long run. Initial outlay is around $350 including $55 membership
