This might not be relevant in your case John, but my Toyota Hi-Ace was doing the same a while back. Mine has a manual choke. I was told by the mechanic not to use the choke at all, to pump the accelerator 2 or 3 times which gives the same as using the choke. It works and I haven't used the choke since and no fast idling at all.
Chalk & cheese. Diesel vers petrol.

I have a Coaster with the 3.4 diesel engine. I have an issue with the idling speed, it over revs when idling. I have the adjustment on ther air intake screwed off but the idling speed is high.
Have any other Coaster owners had this problem, or any advise appreciated.
The engine is in otherwise good condition, no blue smoke and get good fuel consumption.

I would have someone look at the diafram in the governer as they are rubber , and do deteriorate over time. Also, check that there are no air leaks in the lines to the governer.A hole in the diafram will made it run fast as its getting more air.This is fairly technical stuff so I suggest a good mechanic. Bill

Ok. I had this same problem in a boat diesel , some years ago. Fixed it with some super glue out in the middle of the gulf of carpentaria.The motor was hunting and as it was a genset, couldn,t keep the voltage right.Workes fine til week got back to port 6 weeks later. Billl
Thanks for the responces, sorry for the delay, away from my computer yesterday. I will have to get someone to check on the governer diaphram, that I think is beyond me.
