Road conditions Waratah to Corinna (Pieman River) to Zeehan in Tasmania

Would like to travel this route in  a weeks time and have 4.5t SWB Mazda motor home.

Knowledge of the dirt road suitability from Savage River section to Corinna over the punt to Zeehan would assist in planning.

Any tips or not recommended would be helpful.

Thanks

gravel road, not maintained the best at all times but very doable. Some reasonable steep grades and sharp corners. Corrina is a lovely spot, sugest you spend some time there and have a meal at the pub. Have seen free camping on the banks of the river close to where the punt lands. Some nice walking tracks but dont expect to swim, very deep and cold all year around.
cheers

Enjoy, Allinone, hope the weather stays fine, its a beautiful area.

Heres the punt on the Pieman River at Corinna. It was about 5 years ago, and we travelled from Arthur river.

At that time we had no problem with the road, it might have been recently graded, check at the nearest Visitor centre for up-to-date information. .

Be informed allinone, that there is a bush fire north of Granville, not quite sure where but it is blowing a strong Norwesterly today, the fire could head inland pretty quick to wards pieman heads/Corrina. Hope this helps.

Cheers

Kev

There is a fee to use the punt/ferry.  Was $20.00 a couple of years back for a campervan.

Have just completed this journey. The road from Arthur River to Corinna is/was closed for bridge repairs till end March 2013 no signs anywhere on the road, luckily pulled into the rangers office and saw it on the desk.

So the road from Waratah to Corinna via Savage River is white gravel from Savage River mining village onwards. It is slow, hilly and curves with great views on the way. The Trakine Hotel campsites are $20 per night for 2 people and $2 for a shower.

The barge across the Pieman River was $20 and has a 9metre length limit and a 6.5tonne limit too.

The road to Zeehan from Corinna is generally sealed with a small 10km or so section of crushed quartz?

It poured with rain today so bushfires must be all out. The huge old trees and views throughout the Tarkine are majestic.
