Ford Territory tow vehicle

Firstly, apologies if this has been done before!

I am thinking of getting a new diesel Territory AWD as the long term tow vehicle for our yet to be selected replacement van.

We would appreciate thoughts, comments and suggestions on the Territory.

RE: Ford Territory toe vehicle

Welcome Bigred, enjoy here and out in the playground.

The Territory AWD can't be too bad as I see a lot of them towing various rigs out in the playground and I tell you that for free.

My next door neighbour at home has a 18' Jayco Discovery Pop Top with a Territory as tug and has no problems at all, loves them both.

We tow with a 2011 RWD diesel Territory.
Love it !!
Pulls the van like its not there- takes big hills like a team of horses wanting to be let go!
RWD heaps efficient.
Economy is great
Comfort is 4 star.
We put a cargo barrier in, and the dogs travel in the rear.
Seats fold down, and luggage etc is no problem.

What can I say? We'll be getting another (if this one ever wears out)

Thanks all.

Rip and Rosie, can I ask what size van and how far you have towed it with the Territory?

We tow a 16 foot pop top, but the terri would take heaps more weight easily.

We like to tow around 90 kph, but the terri want to run !

Sorry, didn't read your question well !

We have towed heaps Newcastle to Melbourne, around Victoria, the riverina, central NSW, NSW north coast.

Heading to the Blue Mountains next.

Lots of hills/mountains.

I love her paint too much to take her off road.

Actually, proportionally, most of her kms are towing, either the van or the box trailer.

We are on to our second territory and we love it . We pull 18 ft Jay Co pop top. Travels great but we did have to fit an auxiliary transmission cooler. Today while camping and looking at all the other cars, we both agreed we will buy another territory in a few years.

Hello Kantiki,

We have 2005 RWD Territory on petrol and  LIG with Aux Trans cooler. We tow a 17'6'  Viscount Pop top. Lacks power slightly on gas and petrol but has no problems towing. We have an F100 that we tow with also, but love the comfort of the Territory.  Have a cargo barrier and fold down rear seats for extra storage. Happy with our Territory.

winkHi, as this is my first post  we would like to say hi to all our fellow travellers, my wife Adrienne and I have been on the road for three weeks and we have have a 2012 Territory AWD Diesel, towing a 20'6' Legacy. The Ford handles it no problem at all and before that we had a 19'6' Jayco Sterling again no problems. The vehicle is exceptionally smooth and quiet and a pleasure to ride in and drive. Previously we had a Territory Petrol engine and it was a real gas guzzler. The Diesel is very economical and we could not be happier. We intend to be on the road for at least the next three years minimum. Buy the Ford, but make sure you haggle over the price. Best of Luck from David & Adrienne. (Boots)

Thanks for the welcome, we could at best only get 300K to a 75 litre tank of petrol, and we have more than doubled that with the diesel.

Hi
We have just parted with our much loved 2005 RWD petrol Territory with which we tow our 20ft Millard Sunseeka poptop constantly returned 18.6 lts per km at 90 kms per hr.
A couple of weeks ago bought an AWD (2700 kg ) V6 turbo diesel. WOW what a nice thing ,pulls like a bull in Springtime love the 6 speed auto which I drive in performance mode
or manual when towing. Heaps of torque and the fuel average was 12.5 and 12.7 up hills, windy days and traffic. I sit on 90 kph and out in the country admiring the views if no traffic is
around down to 80.We LOVE it at the fuel bowser NOW !!!!!
Cheersbiggrin
