Radar image of tropical cyclone Sandy off QLD coast

G'day Gerty Dancer, petengail and all, I speak from the heart of cyclone territory and having been through Yasi, 2011, Category 5, Larry, 2006, Category 4 and numerous lesser, cat 3 or less, cyclones I can tell you DO NOT PANIC. Compared to  some we've had this one is only a pup and with a sweet, gentle name like Sandra it's a softy. It is really good though that you mexicans, oops, sorry,,southerners are concerned for us, and yes I genuinely mean that, because being a pretty laid back mob up here, and a mite lazy, our concern is ensuring the wet mess is adequately stocked and there's enough petrol for the genny to keep it cool. If the going gets really tough grab the bottle of Bundy and hide in the bilges. I just had a look at the cyclone on the site for which you had a link and I must say it does make it look rather frightening. The map which is used almost exclusively to view cyclones is the BOM site. It is an absolutely brilliant site and there is a wealth of info. Cheers all.

As heavey rain next week. We never had any forward warning before the last two floods here in Glady .

University they fed into a computer all the tracks and some additional info on all named cyclones for the previous 50 yrs in an attempt to identify any sort of pattern or predictability and the conclusion was "totally unpredictable critters". If you can access a copy of "Small Ships Manual " it has an diagram showing all cyclone tracks since 1953 ?. It looks like some of that monkey art or a drunken spider what fell in the ink well.
