The answer is yes, but do you know exactly what your Centrelink entitlements will be? If not you should make an appointment to see a Centrelink financial advisor who will sit down with you and point out exactly what your pension will be and how you can best arrange your financial affairs to get maximum benefit.
Cheers
David

Lots of people on these forums travel Oz on a pension. No doubt you'll hear from them in due course. It's what I intend to do as well and I'm reasonably confident of managing quite well. It's a matter of spending within my means which means lots of home cooking. Ghia, huh? How posh!

As Gary said, lots of Nomads are travelling on the Pension.   I'd check about availability of gas before you go too far outback though.  I've heard it's not always available when you get too far away from civilization.

Having said that, have a ball when you do get going.

Cheers,

Sheba.

hello and a very warm welcome. We look forward to hearing of your adventures. There are people on here who travel on the pension. Hopefully they see your thread and send you there thoughts. Good luck.

My parents did it quite easily for 15 years.

yes you can, welcome to the site, just one point, typing in capitals is considered to be shouting at people, please do not think I am having a go at you, it maybe something you are not aware of, enjoy your time on the open road.

Read this on Go See Australia . . . . http://www.goseeaustralia.com.au/article/884/39;2320_a_day_to_live_on39;_pensioner_Grey_Nomads_say_they_are_priced_out_of_caravan_parks/

Try to free camp when you are not staying at the location, just the night. Stay in the cheapest parks but just be mindful often the toilet facilities are not well maintained.

If you have a house which possibly other pensioners do not have who are on the road full-time then you have to pay utility bills. If you do not have these to pay, it would make your quality of life better on the road.

sure you can. plenty do it. when short a bit stay longer free camping. inland parks offer the best economy and many smaller towns offer bargain fees for longer stays.

For sure check out gas for your vehicle if your not on petrol as well.  TravellIng on a pension is possible just have a budget. and watch your spending, no reason why you can't enjoy yourselves traveling.

My husband will be on an aged pension, and I will be on a disability pension, when we travel permanently. We plan on free camping as often as possible, and when or if we stay in caravan parks we will be claiming rent assistance from Centrelink.

I have been researching living this way on the pension, and when you compare it to paying a mortgage, rates, water, electricity, etc etc etc, I think we will be heaps better off. When we plan on staying in one area for a while, DH would like too do some part time work, but I don't think this is needed, but it's there if we need it.

So after all my research I have found yes it is easy to live on the pension, but budgeting is a must.
