I think you could look a bit further north, perhaps out from Cairns, on the monsoon trough, later in the week. The prognosis is a moderate chance of one forming there, and heading away from the coast, but don,t quote me. Bill

I don't know why it is that just about every second wannabee in the media wants to be first with the "Cyclone  imminent bull s***. EVery year up here in Far North Queensland ,( and yes we are a separate state from the rest of Queensland ), we get budding journalists in cojuction with weather forecasters from, presumably, Northern Turkey telling all who read their newsless columns that we are going to get  x number of cyclones and y number of them will be severe and that z number of them will cross the coast. Don't these poor misguided individuals know that sideshow fortune tellers make a good living and you don't have to declare it all either. Ask the lady with the scarfe at the Brisbane show. Seriously though, all these mugs are achieving is to cause untold people unnecessary stress. And believe me up here on the Cassowary Coast we don,t need that.

We are watching these cyclones with interest in QLD as some of our blazeaid camps are now flooded in and much of the work we have already done is either submerged por has been washed away again.

One of the things with fire they are more devastating but at least when they finished the recovery can start but with floods you can be part way through the rebuild and it all happens again and you have to restart.

Many of our volunteers have temporally departed the bases where possible as they cant get out into the farms anymore.

They are doing some work in the local community such as cleaning museums and other public buildings etc so all is not wasted but it is hard to revisit farms on repeated occasions as the cost in materials is a great strain on their budgets as well as the personal grief that follows these disasters.

Anyone out there looking for a new experience please consider doing some work with a Blazeaid camp as you travel around. Most of the QLD bases will be going until at least the end of October and perhaps longer.

The Tas sites are now closing down and the mainlanders that went over there are now heading back to help in NSW at the several bases we have there and then have indicated that they will move on to QLD as they travel.

Many balzeaiders are continually returning to help year ofter year so it cant be all work. It is one of the highlights of many nomads travels as you get to learn something new as well as see the bush farmers as they are and you really have a lot of fun and come away with a great satisfaction that YOU helped someone in need and you received gratitude for the effort that you gave.

For more info check www.blazeaid.com

Regards
Brian
