We have been in Tassie since 10/12/2011, acquired 10 month housesit at Acton Park near 7 Mile Beach and we have seen a lot of Tassie. Return to the mainland on 5/03/2013 and can't wait to come back again. Loved the winter and all the people we have met including our Tassie friends Noel/Jane we met first in 2002 at Cania Gorge and who we travelled/worked with for 12 months fruit picking from Gayndah(QLD) to Young(NSW). We have been squid, flathead, salmon, trout and tuna fishing with them while here including camping at various beautiful areas. We also met a lot of their immediate families and friends who are all wonderful people especially Janes Mum, Barb and Noel/Janes neighbours Steve and Leigh, we will miss them all dearly.
We also did a tour around the island in a rental 8 seater with our daughter, son in law and two beautiful granddaughters when they flew down for two weeks holiday in Sept 2012, it was still fairly cold by there standards as was seen by the power consumption with all reverse cycle air cons going flat nearly 24/7 but they/we had a great time. We ourselves have acquired a liking for the cooler climes after working at Gayndah in the winter,so love it here.
After finishing the housesit and Xmas/New Year at Noel/Janes we have slowly travelled up the East to the North Coast and met Yeoeleven, Billeeeeeee, Jules47 and three other lady travellers who are all great people and most like us are homeless and loving it. We are heading along the Great Ocean Road to SA on arrival in Melbourne to catch up with other friends from 2002 on whilst working and travelling on the road and possibly friends from Cairns who are heading off around Aust.
So we are happy to meet other Grey Nomad Forumites where ever encountered along the way.
G'day Glad you all had a ball in Tassie cause I will allways call Tassie home. Its such a shame that many Tasmanians are being forced out of this great state through the lack of work and the mismanagement of government. We should succeed from the commonwealth and become a duty free holliday destination and retirement village.
Come back soon we need your money so the pollies can waste it.
WE have found Tasmanians to be very friendly - they love this state they call home, and I can see why. A delight around every corner - something for every one.
Would go so far as to say that if you haven't been to Tassy, you haven't seen Australia - it is worth the fare on the boat - but come for as long as you possibly can - there is so much to see and do, and somehow Tassy kilometres seem a lot longer than mainland ones.

Yes I have had a frugal but enjoyable stay in Tassie and would recommend all travellers to visit once and for at least 3 months.
I have enjoyed Kevin & Kims company since our meetup in O'Neills Reserve and wish them all the best in their future travels, we are all going in different directions this morning and hope that we meet up on the mainland later on our travels.
Poor Denise almost lost her little tent, the wind ripped some pegs out - and it took all of us to hold it down, while she emptied it and put it down - it is a great little item - just throw it out and peg it down, and it is put down like one of those shower tents - it is a three man size, so plenty of room for one person, and a dog - Otis. Will miss Denise as well as Kim and Kevin - we have had a lot of fun!!!
