This put another side to dump point story , We may have to have dump point away from built up areas and we can't always blame local councils , this is a must read on the first page of The Grey Nomads Website
A quick search of Google provides the following info about the proposed site to install the dump point.
Foxfield Oval is a great little spot - the oval itself is huge, has floodlighting for evening sports, and supports soccer and football clubs. There are tennis courts and a big childrens playground (like, a large playground, not a playground for big children), toilet facilities - but no barbecues. I've seen people having a picnic bbq with a gas burner setup though, and there is tons of space for a big gathering.
Foxfield backs onto a gigantic recreation reserve, too, with a plethora of bushwalks to take off on.
Given the main concern of the residents near the proposed dump point is that the dump point would generate too much traffic, noise and disruption seems to be at odds with how the area is used. It would already have considerable traffic and 'people' activity.
Like other threads in progress at the moment, the 'resident' public appear to becoming increasingly intolerant of the 'travelling' public.
The only solution, as usual, is that the 'travelling' public will seek other, more welcoming, places to dump their affluent and spend their $$.
Cheers - John

Love that typo! But so true, and I agree with your remarks too.
Brickies I think this kind of thing happens in any smaller town where there is an established older resident group whom have always lived in the area and never ventured far from its boundaries. Not only regarding a dump point. Having moved back to a smaller country town which is on the larger side after 40 years away, it is still the same families and familiar faces that oppose everything that could possibly bring money and people to the area. The conversation is a fact about anybody not just GN's, it goes something like this. " We don't want change and we don't want tourists here to upset our balance of life". It seems to be more important to close the doors at midday on a Saturday still and take their holidays in Dec/Jan period and then whinge that the multi-nationals that move into the town take all their money. These same people will be sitting in their ivory towers one day complaining that there is nothing left in the town except a dusty street and a pub, blaming everybody else from the Government down. It is frustrating, and annoying, and plain stupid, IMO, however until the older guard change their opinions these type of situations will continue to occur. There will be many more people out there other than me that will be able to identify and name the towns that do embrace the tourist dollar, no matter where it comes from, wether it be GN's, or city dwellers getting away for a few days. Warrnambool, and Port Fairy come to mind immediately. Both towns are always busy no matter what time of the year.

A bit more background - Athelstone (population around 10,000) is a suburb of Adelaide, 10km NE of the Adelaide CBD. with the main arterial road, Gorge Road, running through the town.
It would have been a handy dump point ... and that close to Adelaide, if the overnight stay had been approved as well, would have seen good patronage from the 'travelling' public.
But unfortunately NIMBY wins out again.

But the real point here is we complain about the council but the one we have to convince is the people of the towns . Some years back a country town about 50 klm from where I live knock back an application for permission to build a caravan park by the council because of the out cry from the local they didn't want the caravan park has it would bring the wrong type of people into there town , We must be bad types maybe Gypsies
Ya right brickies ... as I sed above - the 'resident' public appear to becoming increasingly intolerant of the 'travelling' public - and whether we like it not, there is a minority of 'travelling' public that really do create an unpleasant, distasteful, maybe even obnoxious, image that is used to 'tar' us all.
Like almost everything in our society these days - the minority drive what the majority have to put up with.
Cheers - John
