Darling Harbour

Thanks for sharing that Gary, great video and I enjoyed a couple of the others too, loved the poem!  Will look at some more later.

May I suggest you post the video of the VW Kombi Festival on here,  and the poem, many would be interested in that.

I had to attend a function at Admiralty House at Kirribilli a few years ago, so stayed at Glenferrie Lodge in the same street, just a few doors down.  Old style home, great food and atmosphere, and surprisingly not very expensive (Genferrie Lodge that is).  A short walk to Kirribilli Wharf to catch the ferry to Circular Quay or elsewhere, also a short walk to Luna Park or catch the ferry from Kirribilli (one of its stops).

Glenferrie Lodge is not flash and toilet/bathrooms are off the outside passages, first in best dressed, although a larger caravan park style one downstairs, see this link;

I had not been to Sydney for 30 years at the time and Sydney Harbour was just breathtaking, I had forgotten just how beautiful it was, caught a ferry to Manly while there from Circular Quay, and when time to leave caught the train from Circular Quay to Mascot Airport.

G'day yawl. I was in Sydney last Monday to see the doc. I arrived by XPT at 7am, jumped on a train to Circular Quay where I travelled by ferry around to Darling Harbour, and then walked all around Darling Harbour and parts of the city. I put the video together yesterday and posted it on Youtube if you're interested in taking a gander. You could say I'm practicing for my trip around Oz. Click here for the video

Excellent Gary. thanks for that, just made up my mind where I am going for the June long weekend, it was either Sydney or back to Pt Fairy. Sydney it is.

Thanks Sharon. It's a great ol' town, particularly around the inner burbs and harbour. I'm Sydney born and bred, although now a country boy. I see the doc there every three months and am never short of new things to photograph or video. In fact, early June is when I'll be there too! But it's only a day trip.

I appreciate the invitation, Duh, but I don't wanna take over the joint. If anyone wants to click on the link to my web site (below the signature) they can follow the link there to my stuff on Youtube. As to Kirribilli, that's gotta be the pick of residential sites in Sydney if you can afford a waterfront apartment. What a view! However, I am looking forward to doing the "Big Lap" and wearing out a couple of cameras along the way. Just gotta get my medical prob outta the way first. It's not life-threatening (any longer) but it's frustratingly slow. Thanks for your comment on the video. They're a pain in the butt to make but also a lotta fun (if that makes sense).

No worries Gary, will take a look at your blog too.  Hope you get your med problems sorted soon and can hit the road (not too hard though like Yeoeleven wink )

That is the beauty of Glenferrie Lodge, cheap accomodation in a top location!  And handy to everything.....

Gary,

Born in Sydney, left at three years of age,  spent the next 15 years going backwards and forwards. Last visit was around 20 years ago. Went through about the same areas.  I would have got lost today!  I knew my way around about 30 years ago.  How could they change Circular Quay so much.  The jetties, were they around the Rocks area?  I vaguely remember spending a very good night eating and drinking around there, sort of underneath them.

I can't believe how much it has changed!

It's changed alright, Boothie. In 1978, I bought a little terrace house in Glebe for $31,000. It was surrounded by factories. "Don't worry about the factories," the vendor said, "they're earmarked to be demolished." He was right. The yuppies soon moved in and Glebe was transformed. I used to walk to work in Sussex St. Sydney, and cross the Pyrmont Bridge when Darling Harbor was still a railway goods yard. My little house sold recently for $700,000. Unfortunately, I wasn't the owner. I lost it in 1991 when I went into business, bit off more than I could chew, and went broke. Cest la vie.
