Unclaimed Super

Due to new government legislation you have around 4 weeks to claim and combine

Any lost or unclaimed super as anything that is deemed as unclaimed in the near future

will be confiscated by the Government.

This was announced in this mornings news, channel 7.

To look for lost super you can search via the official link:

I keep looking but they never find any for us! I cashed my super in back in 1974 and thought I was so rich when I got a cheque for $875!

We received a letter a few years back asking hubby to contact a certain person about some potential lost super.   We were very pleasantly surprised to have a reasonable large sum there. Apparently when hubby left the state gov't job they had to pay out and their finances were a bit low. After we got the ombudsman involved we had received a pay out and thought that was it.  Apparently they had not paid it all out and it had sat there for 15 years gathering interest.  A very pleasant surprise.  smileconfusesmileconfuse

I had nothing shown either, but worth a check.

I saw elsewhere someone had worked for a Commonwealth Department for a number of years and knew they had super he had paid in at one time, he had never had it paid out or refunded, when he queried it they told him there was no record of it being so long ago.

Thank you Duh. I went and had a look not expecting to find anything and i was right too BUT there is a further link that was interesting and valid to my situation. After establishing proof of identity and creating a new password i was able to access instantly my existing super situation and details about the them. Most interesting was there current values and the ability to simply combine them into one instead of two accounts and so therefore only having one set of fees and charges. Thanks Duh. Good post.

Mind you its a bit scary in away. Once i had the password thing done it took only seconds to see all about my personal financial details. The Government and those with the power to investigate Australians can so easily create an instant view about the lifes of anyone. For some examples i know. Centre link can access our bank accounts. Any transaction we make like buying a holiday/or car for example which has a value over $2000. is reported to the government, medicare, passport, who knows what else!
