I read somewhere that they charged $70 per night at a park in NSW  Stockton could that be right  If so  What sort of a dill would pay that for any length of time.......

This often happens along the coast in peak times,& they think pensioners can afford this.disbeliefnodisbeliefnodisbeliefno

CPs often bitch about free campers. But, in my case, if there were no free camping there'd be no camping period. Are CPs telling me that pensioners have no right to travel Australia? That we should stay home and watch telly the rest of our lives? Bugger that.

People who have the money will pay those fees, and furthermore the caravan parks are full at peak times even at those rates. Its a fact of life, pensioners generally dont enjoy the crowds of ankle-biters anyway, so we go elsewhere. No point in complaining about it.

Jimbo it may be a seasonal price. We stayed at Stockton last year and it was $35/night in March - even that was steep we thought but it was a member of a park group so you could get a discount. It is a great CP though and we loved travelling on the ferry across to Newcastle. Stockton is a council-owned park with managers and contracts.

With regards to "discounts" at big name parks, I was told on very good authority that the discount was in name only as the cost was calculated with the aim of giving the discount. This would appear on the surface, to be a good lurk since those who are not members are still paying the inflated price but not getting the "discount". One of the reasons we avoid staying there.
Regards to all,
Magnarc

Strange jimbo - Stockton doesn't have caravan sites on the river - the river is too far away - and the park is next to the beach. So maybe it was another park.

Stayed in Stockton C/P last November and paid $35 per night it is a good park but even in peak period no worth any more.
