going back over my trip between Geraldton and Coral Bay the following places stood out:

We stayed in the PCYC overflow area because it was over Easter at Kilbarri with many places to visit.

We stayed at the Monkey Mia Resort and I thought that it was reasonably priced.

Stayed at the Coral Bay Caravan Park again reasonable. Steven paid to swim with the Whale Sharks but was disappointed to miss them but he was given another day out and missed there too. John

Or you can stay anywhere in Exmouth as well - the reef is beautiful - get on a drift, and just float over it - see the most wonderful sealife.

Dont go to Ningaloo Reef in school holidays! Its crowded and more expensive.

There are several caravan parks in Exmouth, but if you can, try to get a spot in the Cape Range National Park... fantastic! You can snorkel the reef from there.

We stayed at the Yardie Creek c/park, its out of Exmouth on the coast beside the reef & more convienent, just before you enter the NP. There is also another one a little north of this but more expensive.

We spent our time at thepark near the lighthouse through Exmouth, but here Yardie Creek is good. Snorkelling at Turquoise Bay was a real highlight. In my opinion it was better than Coral Bay.

We stayed in Monkey Mire Caravan Park and were very happy with it (see pic, the water is just beyond the far cabin and campervan). In the morning there was just a short walk to see the dolphin feeding plus, the sunsets were amazing. Also, if you are considering the other available caravan parks which are in the nearby town of Denham check which way the wind is blowing first as the it gets to be a pain there sometimes.

At Ningaloo Reef, If you are set up to bush camp, I suggest staying at a caravan park for one night to restock your food and water, etc (we stayed at Ningaloo Lighthouse Caravan Park which was closest to the reef.

While at the caravan park you can reconnoiter the camping spots which are mostly right on the water edge. We stayed at Neds Camp(see pic, the water is just over the rise) which was fantastic, We could practically throw a stone in the water from where we were. Bring your own water and power but there are toilets.
