We possibly dont quite belong to this forum as we are grey but not as yet nomads, but we do have a caravan albiet an old one which we purchased about 9 months ago. It is a Viscount aerolight 1988. We had a few hiccups initially eg cracked chasis and leaking roof (we now know the meaning of buyer beware!!!!) but they are now repaired along with new kitchen bench top. We have had a couple of short trips away free camping at the river and a couple in caravan parks in rural areas here in SA. Our van is lovely and comfortable and we love being away in it and it will suffice until we finally decide what type to buy for the bigger adventures. It will be a few years before we hit the road for long periods but thought it would be a good idea to join the forum to ask advice learn tips and to just learn in general. We will be off again for a few days over Easter and have a queary about the water tank. Do you empty your tank between trips or just top up, and do you need water purifiers.
Looking forward to trawling through the tips and stories on here and learning heaps in anticipation of becoming a nomad. Have a piccy but not sure where to post it
Kindest regards Judes and Bazz

we all had to start somewhere your caravan is as good as ours and I think they are verry similar inside and that 's not a shame
we hope you've going to get a lot of enjoyment out of it
dont be shy to ask If you dont know something, I did not know anything.
I would empty the watertank if it has been standing for a few weeks and clean it out using bicarp soda
( fill tank half full a half packed of bicarp take the van for a spin around the block empty the tank and refill with clean water and than I would empty it again and refill good to go than )
that takes all the smells and taste away
now I have even wired the caravan for 12 volt including solar and learn everytime new things
plenty of us are willing to help you
Regards John

Thanks David for the warm welcome and the tip with the tanks. Makes sense to not fill the tank although kinda glad we did on our last wee trip as the water in the caravan park was typically SA horrible!! Lol

A very warm welcome Judes Bazz to the forum as an additional answer to your question it is always wise to empty and flush your water tanks and leave them empty till the next trip and if you are going to be staying in caravan parks it is probably not worth filling them unless you are travelling in the outback or deserted areas, just carry a supply of drinking water in the car or van.
