Yesterday in SE qld

We have a rough day on the coast yesterday and remained indoors most of the day whilst the rain tumbled and the wind howled past. Our poor next door neighbour who has just returned from Bargara last week found his caravan 6 mts from where he had unhooked it....Thank heavens for insurance

Bribie Is. has finally said good bye to the torrent this morning - still without power but have phones back on line. Plenty of tree damage, but thankfully no flooding and it's just the southern end (naturally our end!) of the island without power 'til maybe Wed or Thurs. Had to call SES (via the police - only way with emergency nos. on mobile) for a collapsed shed next door - they were all out and the tin sides and roof were in danger of flying every which way. But all good now.
Hope everyone else in the GN family is OK

All over here in Brissy.

The strong wind & rain from the East blew in thru the weep holes in the brick wall on the upper story.  Then ran down to the damp course above the ground level walls.

Unfortunately the electricians who put in the Air conditioners or those who did the Solar panels, had punched thru the damp course directly over the power sub board.

Eventually the earth leakage unit for power points blew (not just tripped).

Extension lead from neighbours place for fridge/freezer, until Plumber son came & fixed the water problem & his Electrician mate replaced the Earth Leakage units.

Almost finished the permanent repairs.

Now to cut up the paperbark tree on the footpath that shed about 2/3 of its branches.  Free dumping of green waste opened last night.

Broadband cable is repaired .. large terminal/distribution box in a pit across the road replaced.  Used my mobile broadband in the interim.  I don't have Foxtel so TV reception normal, unlike the neighbours.  My landline phone was OK without power, as I still have one of the old  fashioned wall phones connected in the kitchen.

We got off very lightly compared to others  .. eg a Guy across the road had his bedroom ceiling collapse from water ingress (broken tiles?) and next door has mould on bedroom ceiling ... water in roof space?   Son lost power for a day or so  ... back on now.

The emerging problem is treated water shortage due to the turbid river water not able to be treated at normal capacity.  I have full tanks for washing & toilets & the Council is arranging free bottled drinking water distribution.  So all good there too.

We were very lucky here in Loganholme on the southside. We didn't lose power, internet or phone. No damage either. I drove around a bit yesterday, and took some photos for future reference. I'm not far from the Logan River and the amount of water coming down, and the speed of the water was amazing to see.

I feel for all those peole who've been inundated.
