Getting to Kyogle from Brisbane

Hi guys, best, quickest, and fastest would be M1 to Tweed Heads, over Sexton Hill which bypasses Tweed and then take Tweed valley way exit near Chinderah )keep to left lane) and onto Murwillumbah. Just follow signs into town, over the Tweed river (lovely drive) and approx 500mts over river take left to Uki, Kunghur and Kyogle.

I havent travelled via Rathdowney so I cant offer comment on that route.

ps: the above route is easy for towing but around Uki etc road narrows and climbs but not too much.

Safe travels

cheers

I've travelled this way (click on link) http://goo.gl/maps/4anqh and it's fine. There is also a short cut over the McPherson Range called Lions Road. It's not suitable for towing in my opinion as it's narrow and winding and I doubt you'd gain anything.

I've not travelled the route suggested by ozi2 so I don't know whether this way would be better or not. It may perhaps depend on which part of Brisbane you're coming from.

The Kyogle showground only charges people not staying there $5 - it is free if you are staying - from memory it was $25 pn.

I have been the route JimRicho has posted except I left from Ipswich headed towards Boonah took the Beaudesert turn off east of Boonah then joined Jim route just west of Beaudesert . Found it to be a real nice drive . I would be happy to pay $5 to dump my waste .

Yep $5 is a reasonable amount I feel as well.

The route down through Rathdowney is lovely - you can direct from Boonah to Rathy- passing Lake Maroon along the way - it is a beautiful trip - done it many times, used to bowl at Rathdowney.

Do NOT go via Casino.
We travelled from Yamba to Toowoomba that way before Christmas and the roads are terrible, very neglected.
Casino - Kyogle - Woodonbong - Killarney - Warwick.
Terrible, never again!
Will go the long way on the Pacific Highway and Logan Toll road.

Out through Beaudesert or Boonah is a great trip - ok roads are not major highways - but who wants to travel on a major highway if you don't have to??

You will have no problems with your rig on the Mt Lindsay Highway but it wont be a fast trip, but very enjoyable, travelled that road last Sept from Jimboomba to Casino, don't travel the Lions Road with the van but its a lovely day trip along Lions Road to Rathdowney and then return on the Mt Lindsay without a van, easy to do from Kyogle.
Casino has the CMCA caravan park which would have to be one of the best parks in Australia and now called Casino Resort and managed by Big4
On the the Lions Road there is an interesting lookout to see the spiral on the main railway line and its a good place for a lunch stop
Cheers

Hi all, Sorry it's taken so long to reply we have had intermittent Internet coverage so I haven't had a chance. We went via the Mt Lindsay Hwy and Summerland Way - the road was fine - thanks for all the advice! We had a great 3 days at Toonumbar Dam and the went to the Mann River just west of Jackadgery - a fantastic free camp. We then crossed the range and headed down to Uralla where we missed most of the bad weather. Are now in Tamworth and will be heading south west in a day or so. Thanks again for this great forum. See you out there!
