WATER THIEVES CASH IN

G'day, sounds like a security camera on the area may have been a better option. My wife and I were nearly knocked over recently outside the Bendigo Library as a fleet footed 15 year old was rushing out with the Library Charity Donation box and he had four adults in hot pursuit..he was shoving people young and old out of the way....they cornered him two streets over and frog-marched him back..big smiles at his mates as he was dragged back into the Library to summon Police...my point...it may well be Juveniles...and not Caravanners and Travellers...so often there are two sides to every bad story....$1 for 50 litres I cannot believe, and will not without further evidence, that any one in my/our peer group would/could do it..Hoo Roo.

As reported inWA Sunday Times on 13 Jan 13 - Rogue caravanners and other travellers have been stealing the honesty box after filling up their onboard water tanks at theKarratha Visitor Centre.  The unscrupulous thieves have now forced the centre to install a fortified coin-operated dispenser.  They only charge $1 for 50 litres.  What's wrong with people in this world.  They don't quibble when they go to the shop and are prepared to pay $3 for a 600ml bottle. I would be happy to pay the Visitor Centre price for water. Please stop thieving and lift your game.  Larry

These are their own worst enemy & first to complain when its not there. Another example of a minority stuffing it up for the majority.

Unfortunately the point is that anything for free is gratis.  The caravan park we are staying in at the moment only has one inch BSP taps, we only have 3/4 and 1/2 inch adaptors.  The owner made comment that he had to buy at least 15 adaptors a week.  I took offence and told him I would put the adaptor back on the tap he took it off when we leave.   He obviously realised we would not take off with his $1.50 adaptor, because I was raised not to do that.  I have seen people drive off with everything from power cords, sheets and, believe it or not, wooden table and bench seats that were set in concrete slabs.  It is amazing what a chain saw can do.

And these were all people older than me.  Age and gain, do make a difference if you were raised to tell the difference between ill gotten and honest gain.

Golddetectornomad is right on the money - very unlikely to be nomads.

Its not always travellers, grey nomads, or back-packers, sometimes locals, young or old, of any race, you cant make general statements.

I'd have given my garden tool to the person who stole it if they'd have asked! however I think they didnt need it, just picked it up because it was left out the front while they were walking by. Dam! Now I have to go to Bunnings for a new trowel!

well last year when staying at a caravan park in North Queensland which was a very low fees and well run. One morning when we got up and went to the shower block there was no toilet paper to be seen all the soap was gone and this park had air fresher in each toilet all gone, there was 2 white Toyota coaster which left very early the only one that had left the park , the owner said this happen often they come into the park to do there washing and when they leave they help themselfs. Sad thing they were grey nomads and all the other nomads said they are the ones that give us a bad name

It is less likely to be Grey Nomads - I for one would not mind spending $4-oo filling my 200 litre water tanks ....

Unfortunately like the rest of the community there are good and bad out there (not to mention unreformed ex criminals of both sexes).

I remember reading a story about a Road House owner, saw a woman come out of the ladies toilets with his toilet rolls heading for her car (he actually sold some items including toilet rolls in his RH shop). He approached her before she got to her car and told her to take them back, he had her number and would report the theft if she didn't. Talk about hide.

Sometimes these thefts are done by car trippers too, not just those in RV's, include rubbish thrown through windows and at rest stops and bush confetti and brown logs left behind bushes or (I suspect done at night in the cover of darkness) in the open too, etc....

At one caravan park I visited thieves had stolen those round toilet roll dispensers as well off the walls.

I've noticed that this sort of thing happens a lot around the backpacker vans, I've even seen toilets at rest stops emptied of toilet paper, how lousy can you get? I've even put a roll of toilet paper in the toilet overnight and find it gone in the morning, don't bother any more.

I can't believe it; it's disgraceful. Obviously these people think it is all put them for them alone. It's called stealing.

Freeloaders are the downside of the GN lifestyle. Unfortunately we all get painted with the same suspicious brush, whether we are nice, honest people, or not. Those who have gone before, have set the precedent and the example, which it's anticipated we will all follow.
I've seen some horrendous sights in those parking bay toilets. These conveniences are very convenient to the traveller, truck driver and pilot. When there are no roadhouses, and we have to park up at sundown, a parking bay with a loo is a luxury. But sometimes I have to take my dunny digger and the rolls for a run.
If it's not bolted down they will steal it. An honesty box in this instance seems to be an oxymoron, similar to the moron who stole the honesty box.
