To me the roof air conditioners are noiser than the split systems, I would look around for someone with a split system check the noise level and ease of installation and make a decision.

Its probably easier to change over to a roof unit like aircommand and you will not have to fill the roof hole, but to me the split could well be cheaper, harder to install but quiter. So says someone with 40 years of using roof air conditioners and non with split systems.

I have a Colemans Mach rooftop on my jayco and it is surprisingly quiet on th eoutside. The bigest noise is from the blower fan inside if on high speed , quite noisy. It is only 2yrs old but am waiting for A/c guy to come have a look at it, I think the blower fan has either broken the shaft or come loose on it and I cant see how the hell to get into it.

Ibis by Air Command would be my choice if fitting an RV air con.
However due to the physical size of your bus a Domestic style split system would probably be more appropriate.

My two bobs worth,

I have a Dometic 3.4 Kw reverse cycle in an RV 7.6 metres long. I find that I need another fan midway along the vehicle to help to adequately cool/heat the rear area. The aircon is about four feet from the front of the RV and even running the fan full speed it won't do the rear bedroom properly. The midway fan helps do the job.

I have a friend who bought a split system( Similar Kw) and mounted the main unit behind the bumper bar of his 36' bus/coach.The interior unit is above the drivers position and he has the same problem the cool air doesn't reach the rear so he has a pedestal fan to help move the cool air to the rear.

I think if both our units were in the middle it wouldn't be such a problem, so as they say in the real estate adds,Location location location.

Might be worth thinking about the position of the installation in your vehicle.

Cheers

Trevor
