satellite tv

Hello Malcolm,

As far as I am aware there is only one choice of decoder for VAST and that is the UEC decoder.

There was talk of Strong doing one but I haven't heard of them for sale.

The other bits like the satellite dish you can shop around but it seems only UEC is the one for the box.

There are a few companies selling the systems and satplus and itechworld are just two.

I used satplus in Melbourne and I got mine next day express post with no hassles. Others may have different recomendations from their own experiences.

Hope you get sorted at a good price.

Cheers

Trevor

PS.

There is a New UEC box available now .The older model was 240 Volt only, so if you do not have an inverter / Gennie. No TV, now there is one that is both 12 volt and 240 Volt.Don't know the prices but might be worth looking at.

G'day malcolm,

I would advise you have a look at Satplus too, they have shops in Qld,Vic and I think WA. The prices are pretty good from what I have seen and the bits and pieces they use are top quality gear which to me makes a difference. I dont want a lead or something to come apart in the middle of nowhere and disable my tv system.

I am a very happy customer of Satplus the backup support if you buy a full kit is excellent.

If you are travelling aus I would also advise you pick an 85cm dish as these bigger dishes are easier to aim at the satellite and will work better in rain.

I have been using portable sat for the last 10 years and the advancement in ease of use is amazing.

Yes there is only one VAST box and that is the UEC brand which is the one sold by all satellite retailers.

hope that helps

frank

Hi Malcom, I agree with everyone comments about Satplus. They have all the stuff you will need. One item that no one as mention yet is the digital Satellite finder that they provide. It's locked onto C1, the satellite that carries the VAST service. you still need a compass and the details of the elevation but the actual aligning is so easy with this finder. I purchased one recently and the difference in time taken to get the dish in the right place was amazing. Before it could take anywhere from 3 to 5 mins but a lot longer on some occasions. With this new finder I usually get it set up anywhere from 30 to 60 seconds with no hassles of frustration from me or Cheryl. The cost is $129 but as far as I am concerned, worth every dollar. Happy viewing, where you are Brian.

Hi Cruising Cruze

have a look at www.satplus.com.au and also at Satgear not sure of the web address. if you are touring aus northern or western states pick an 85cm dish, these are easier to aim and work better in the rain.

I purchased an itechworld  complete kit over Christmas, was on special for $537 + delivery. Have had all sorts of problems locking onto Sat as I got stingy and didnt pay the extra for auto sat finder. Guess I will get used to setting it up but think I will buy the auto sat finder to save my sanity ( if I really do have any left )

Scotty, r u in WA if yes where abouts, I would ditch itechworld and contact Philip @ satplus Victoria, it will only take a couple of days to get a really good sat finder.

KFT the satplus in WA closed about 6 months ago, I asked Philip in Vic why and he said very little custom for the amount of outlay to keep the business going, they were down Bussleton way I believe.

Here's a PDF for you to print

http://www.aurorasatellite.com.au/Web%20page%20skews.pdf

for the past 10 years I have been using a 65cm dish all over Aust and have had no problems getting a signal anywhere, smaller dish is eaiser to store, ours sit on the bed when we are travelling and is out basking in the sun when we stop.

I have seen a couple of systems that have the dish that sits on the ground in its own frame work, boy are they hard to set up, go for a dish on a tripod.

ALL of the above is in MHO what suits one camper may not suit another, average price to pay is about $500-$600 for a kit, if you buy it in parts it maybe cheaper, then you get what you want.

Bugga, now I've missed some of the tennis. biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

after 4 weeks of messing around I still dont have Sat TV. Itechworld tech support were on holidays till this week, real good and and are only available 3 - 5 PM WA time. Fat lot of good that is. Couldnt fix the problem even after I spent another $100 on digital sat finder so now have to get local Tech out to see if he can find the problem!   NOT HAPPY!!!!!!

G'day Wombat, good to see you posting again.

Thanks for the info re Satplus WA I was not aware they had closed that branch.

All my gear is satplus and I use a tripod too, means I can do my alignment standing up which helps with the back pain and the Knee pain.

My satfinder is a bit of pro gear I use to use at work for doing the sat dishes on hospitals and it is a good bit of gear.

I found the 85cm dish much easier to point and works better in rain and also when there are lots of trees about. It travels over the spare wheel with a ratchet strap to keep it there.

enjoy the tennis

let me know if you do not have it fixed by the time you get near Perth, maybe I can have a look at it for you, but you do need it crossing the Nulla

sorry to ask this but you have registered with VAST I hope?

Do you know if your LNB is a 10700?

I am just fishing to see if it can be fixed asap, there is a guy in Port Augusta who will know what is wrong, go into the Toursit Office and ask where he is, you can get a van into the TO only about 4 spaces if not there you can continue into town and park at the back of BigW or Woolies by the water, then about 20min walk to the TO.
