Emoticons - why are so many aggro/negative?

G'Day,    Like many others who like to be nice and do unto others etc etc, I try to make my posts or replies as friendly as possible and try and not be ambiguous or patronising or whatever. (I'm good at that eh!).

I try to add an "Emoticon" as a sort of postscript just to ensure what I write is taken in good faith.

However, when I look for a smiling face - a smilie - I cannot find onedisbelief -- plenty of aggro, up yours, shouldn't do that, burn in hell etc but minimal feel good emoticons.

My question is seeing as they are called "emoticons", I'd guess they portray emotions.....so why are so many negative.....is that the society we live in?

Gday...

I would have thought these were at least a little bit positive -

Hope this helps broaden the availability of 'positive emoticons'

Cheers - John

Less than 20% of students who did the stage two English Exam last year achieved  so called competence in English.  (West Australian today 02-01-13)

No wonder when we are reverting back to  Hieroglyphics to express ourselves.

Then there are those,  LOL,   IMHO, etc.    that are  used for ending  a line of text !   OMG.

Even without the emoticons if you just type : - ) without the spaces you get smile

Did you know it takes 13 muscles to frown furious but only 2 to smile? smile  Why work so hard? biggrin

Hmmm....OK, I guess I was looking for the traditional smilie - the one that had the yellow face, eyes looking at you and a grin....sort of like when you talk to someone face to face. The one labelled "smile" in the list is looking sideways away from the viewer.   Maybe I'm getting old sniff.gif

Thanks for the reply.

Edit-- Re-opened the thread, and the last post shown is Hako's 2nd post.  We're all invisible after that... invisible.gif.

Hit reply again, and they are back. hmmmm.... gremlins? evileye

I rarely use the emoticons as I go in to the Post Quick Reply. They are not there and I don't have time to go in to Advanced Editor. I am always in a hurry to get to the next thread. lol
