Hi rustylizard,

I stand corrected but I was looking at a Prado earlier this year that had gas/diesel and was told it mixes the gas with the diesel and not run the vehicle on gas OR diesel so after thinking about that, I decided to go gas and petrol as they can be independently run. My thought was, you need to have access to both gas and diesel everywhere you go in this great country but not all places have gas.

I am no expert, far from it, but just wanted to mention my experience.

I am not sure if I have seen you on here before so if not, welcome from me, enjoy here and out in the playground.

Good luck with it all, and,

Hi Rusty,
Please talk to an experienced Diesel mechanic before you spend your hard earned.
Two 20 litre jerry cans will give the same range as an extra tank cost $50

Add to that the fact that gas is bloody hard to find once you're off the main roads in my experience. Diesel is available pretty well everywhere so your travel itinery can be far more flexible

some facts.
I use diesel / gas
You can run on diesel only
you cant run on gas only
When running deisel.gas your engine burns a lot cleaner.
There is about 1/2 a gear increase in power.
The range isnt extended greatly gut the other benifets make it a worth while investment for towing.
If you run out of because of supply problems you just run on diesel until you find some.
Info supplied by an old fart deisel mechanic clicking spanners for a dollar also experienced

It's a few years since I have seen this raised on forums. During all those discussions Collyn Rivers did some research and wrote a paper on the subject. You can see it at http://www.caravanandmotorhomebooks.com/articles/old/gas_diesel_injection.html

Thats correct, diesel burns about 80% the gas makes it 100% burn, I just got quoted 4 grand for doing it on my diesel, it does give extra HP and Efficiency, which is noticable, It also cuts out the black smoke from unburnt diesel. I can drive a long way for 4 grand,
