AIR COMMAND airconditioner

Does anyone know about this airconditioner. It is a Wren. It is making a loud noise like something is rattling around inside unit when aircon.  is turned on. When fan only it works normal. took this to be looked at and it did not play up for them. Next time we turned it on the noise was back and lasted an hour or so then normal. This time turn it on and the noise is back and it is now more than 2 hours and noise is unrelenting. Any ideas?

Possibly the condensor fan motor bearings are worn or the fan blades are loose and hitting against the condensor or other parts of the unit, this fan only runs when the units refrigeration is running, this fan motor is usually not too expensive to replace but if the blades are hitting the condensor and cut a hole in the piping, then the repair could be much more costly, of course there could be other causes for this noise.
Cheers
David

we have the same air-con and we had the same problem ,so we took it to the caravan repairer who found that the blades as mentioned by roving-dutchy were hitting on something inside the unit, when the fan was on it didn't make a noise ,hope this helps

On my old unit .. 14 YO & still going strong ...    had a noise when on cooling.  Caused by the rubber mountings on the extrenal fan perishing allowing the fan blades to sometimes hit the bottom of the frame.  I made up a new set of mounts & it has been OK for the next 5 yrs.

Another noise came from the interior fan.  It is a cylinder type fan that spins inside a larger cylinder shaped cavity.  The outside casing came loose causing the spinning fan to hit it from time to time.  I used a piece of plastic conduit ( a bugger to get in place) to replace the outer casing.  All good.

I had a Heron 2.2 split system (Air Command) and also had a noise, I found mine was being caused by the fan blade striking the plastic cowling that surrounds it, a sort of a round hollowed scalloped shape.

Making sure the unit is off and unplugged, I managed to get my hand around behind the cowling and re-adjusted the cowling by moving it and it was ok after that.

Be a shame to miss out on A/C at this time of year.  These units are made to be fixed.  Not like a lot of modern ones that require individual units to be replaced.

Suggest that you get a screwdriver & take off the internal cover & see if there is an obstruction there.  I think not, as you don't get the noise with fan only on.

Get a step ladder & a couple of planks to put across the roof.  (you put your weight on them rather than the roof).

Take off the fibre glass cover & turn the A/C on.

You will probably see the fan hitting on something at the bottom of its path.

Turn it off & loosen off the fan mountings & put in a bit of rubber or foam from your floor matting or similar (temp) to lift it up a bit, 1/4 " or so & you will have fixed it.

Wish I was there to help.  Just look for an old codger like me with a bit of bush experience & I'm sure that they will fix it for you in no time.

ps. Can't believe that you have never used your shower ... must get a bit smelly! (just joking). I got caught in cold wet weather in Eden & used ours for the first time.  Rarely use the public ones these days.
