Whale watching

I can certainly endorse Gert's recommendation for the Hervey Bay whale watch. As I recall best time is Sept-Oct but check this out.If in Hervey Bay or nearby save up your pennies and do the whale watch cruise, it's worth every dollar.

I can also endorse her comments re the Head of the Bight. I think best time is winter but not sure so check that one out. Perhaps GD you may care to comment.

Eden is very nice. I've stayed at the Fountain CP and can recommend it. There is a very interesting museum in Eden featuring the history of whaling industry.

Google the CPs in the Hervey bay area and check their websites for their pets policy. You can also use Google Maps to do this, enter "caravan parks near hervey bay"

Does anyone know of pet friendly caravan parks along the coast that during the winter months whales can be seen from the land?

My mum said she has seen them from Woolgoolga but not a lot?

Time is not a problem any state will do?

Heres a few Jen

Burrum River C/P in Qld,where we stayed while we did the BEST whale-watching cruise from Hervey Bay.

Batemans Bay, South Coast NSW , but I cant find a listing for a pet-friendly C/P there.

Narooma, south coast nsw, you can see whales from land and stay at Surfbeach Holiday Park

Tathra, south coast NSW where you can see them from above the wharf, and stay at the Tathra Beach Tourist park.

Then theres Eden on the far south Coast of NSW where you can choose from the Garden of Eden C/P, Discovery Holiday Parks,Fountain C/P or Eden Tourist Park.

If distance is no barrier, try the Head of Bight on the Nullabor, and say at the Nullarbor Roadhouse.!! Absolutely fantastic, stood there watching the whales for hours and got sunburnt. The southern Right are very different whales there from the Humpbacks and Minke whales we see on the East Coast.

Our whale watch at Hervey Bay was early August I think, and the Nullarbor experience was early September. You can google plenty of info about times as they vary a bit.
The reason we stayed at Burrum River c/p near Howard, was there werent any other parks around which would take pets, and at the time we were travelling with a friend who had a dog.

Can recommend the Garden of Eden CP & Cat Balou Whale Watching.
We went in October & had the best day.
As mentioned in an earlier post, the whale museum is very interesting.

Dalmeny - it's just north of Narooma (so NSW south coast) and much cheaper than a regular cp. Virutally all the sites are on a slope but at the bottom of the hill is the bay across which the whales and dolphins frolic. Doesn't really matter where you park you're just about guaranteed a fabulous view. It's in Camps6 but can't remember the no. offhand.
