We are getting very excited now...the van was unwrapped on the weekend, and is now packed ready to leave tomorrow afternoon for a quick trip down the Newell. We have to have the van at the manufacturers in Melbourne by Tuesday,
Then it's up to Stawell for Christmas....then hopefully a slower trip back to the sunny coast, via Canberra ... Would be great to see anyone along the way...we are planning on free camping all the way...so any suggestions of great spots would be greatly appreciated.
We received our new Grey Nomad stickers this week and are proudly displayed on van and car...
Looking forward to catching up with any one out in the playground Happy travel from Lyn and Jeff
I can certainly recommend the free camp at Mendooran - see attached map.
Interestingly, the distance from Coonabarabran to Dubbo is the same either down the Newell or through Mendooran. The road from Coonabarabran through Mendooran to Dubbo is a much better drive. Excellent two-lane sealed road with very little traffic and NO trucks.
Doubt it, suenray, as we were at Terramungamine yesterday & during our stay was speaking to the ranger & another council officer with no such mention arising. What has happened is that it has been reduced to one night stay due to the toilet system/water supply being unable to cope when the place is chockers for extended periods.

I'm on the Newell, currently parked in Parkes Overnight Van Park in a cabin. Heading south and then west tomorrow. Everywhere there's mining there's no accommodation, so free camping is the way to go if you're equipped. I'm thinking about installing solar panel just to run the van when I'm not running. More "stuff". Anyway, if you see me out there, give me a call on UHF channel 40, or stop for a chat. I'm heading home, but it looks like I might have to go via Whyalla and Prominent Hill and Broken Hill before Christmas. I have to pay for the new radiator somehow. It blew at Moranbah (look it up if you don't know where it is) so 12 hours and $1100 later I was back on the road.

G'day Granny...just thought I'd say hello, as it doesn't look like we'll see you on the Newell, you are ahead of us, we stayed at a very noisy stop next to the highway just out of Coonabarabran.... Hopefully we will find somewhere quieter tonight..... Have a safe trip...
