Dubbo Showgrounds are closed. Best not to stay in Dubbo. You could go out to Narromine or Mendooran or freecamp mentioned in Recommendations. Or just down the Obley Road past the zoo there is a spot at Toongi.
Have stayed at both Westview and Midstate a number of times and would definitely stay at them again. They're well removed from the trouble areas. Ozjohn.

Has anyone stayed at Eumunggerie area camp 38kms heading north on the Newell/Oxley highway from Dubbo? It is shown in Camps 6 as 392, basic camp, toilets, cold showers, pets ok, big rigs ok, mobile reception etc.
Has a dollar sign so must have a small fee, see camps 6......
I stayed 2 nights at Westview, it is only a few ks away from the zoo. It is a dog friendly park. Don't let your dog off lead or you could be told by park management as I was. The place was empty, I parked way down the back of the park (because I can't reverse yet) and I didn't notice my girl had wondered a little as I was unhitching the caravan, the greens keeper gave me a quick reminder. She was only having a stickbeak around, not far from me, anyway I was wrong, not complying to the park contract.
I asked at the office for places to leave the dog while I visited the zoo and was told that most people leave their dogs locked in their caravans and as the zoo pass covers 2 days, it can work out ok leaving fido for 2 to 3 hours at a time, especially if fido has plenty of exercise before you leave him and is in need of a long nap.
I stayed for three nights about a month ago at the Dubbo City Holiday Park, cnr Alfred & Whylandra Sts.
Power $25/night (less 10% discount for Top Tourist members). They have very good amenities, grassed sites with slabs, drive-through sites on concrete.
Excellent security - cameras, high fences and the boom gates close at 7.30pm until 7am .... four digit code (changed weekly) to operate which is provided when you pay.
I would not hesitate to recommend this park.
Cheers - John

The Midstate caravan park would be my pick and it is a short walk to the Sporties Club (alias Dubbo railway bowling club) where there is an all you can eat Chinese Restaurant that has Aussie food as well as sea food.
However the Westview for animal people.

I was tired yesterday and I'm tired today betcha I'm retired tomorrow. he he.
Stayed a week there in July August this year. No issues at all with locals close to town, shops some people looked like they lived there in there cars but they were nice. It was the cheapest in town. And should be too.

We just spent 5 days at Westview cp, family parks member. cost was $27/n/2A/pwd with discount.
Owner pointed out the shady sites and said if you like different one just go there. we were happy with the site she gave us. morning and arvo shade, short walk to amenities(very clean) quiet at night. No problems at all of any sort.
Lots of grassy sites, lots with shade. a few permanents mostly workers. Nice salt water pool. Dump point. good TV reception, good mobile reception, Wireless broadband was 4G and fast.
Dubbo water has improved quite a bit since I lived there.
We will be going back a few times over the next few months so will keep using this park.
