No savings passed on here in SA. A lot of extra revenue has been raised due to people missing the re reg date. There are a lot of plate recognition cameras here. What happens is you get a suprise fine in the mail. I put a small sticker on the speedo with the expiry date.

I would recommend leaving the sticker in place - just as a reminder of when the rego is due each year - unless of course it is against the law to do so? I did that in WA until I changed vehicle.
WA send out reminders for the rego to be paid a month prior - which is great if you still have an address there and a kind relative to check your mail. Can all be paid on line and I found the WA Transport Dept very helpful when I rang them as I had forgotten to pay in time.

It sounds like a good idea until you want to buy a car privately.
Vic. rego sticker shows:
Expiry Date
Rego Number
Serial Number
Vehicle Description
VIN
Engine Number
All of this is on a sticker that you pay for. Without knowing that these details were correct by checking the vehicle numbers against the sticker, I wouldn't be buying it.
EDIT: Fixed typo

Haven't heard yet of Vic doing it, yet I don't see any need for the renewal lable as it's no longer stamped to signify payment, and hasn't been for years.
Does other states still send out Reg Renewal Statements (as an invoice) ?
As Vic has different fees for areas (based on postcode) I wonder how you would know what $'s to pay without an invoice?
Cheers

You won't simply be left high and dry spida, I'm sure you will recieve a registration renewal notice through the mail as we do in SA.
And be aware of the Mexican Revenue Raisers South of the NSW border, some SA motorists were fined in Vic for not having stickers, eventually it was sorted out.

I prefer to have to sticker too, you can tell at a glance if you are up to date with the rego.
does that mean I can remove the sticker from the fridge door too......? Actually I got a renewal notice once and just swapped it with the one on the fridge. That happens in small places sometimes.. lol

These details are listed on the rego papers and should be checked against the compliance plate anyway. A valid registration document and/or label does not confirm that the vendor has legal title to the vehicle. Each state has a facility where this can be checked and if buying privately one would be a fool not check.

It would be good if Victoria followed, anything for an easier life.
Keep in mind the old Vic V SA thing Doug, if SA introduced it before Vic the Victorian powers that be will automatically slot it into the bad idea file.

My observation is that that applies to the other states too.
