Yes, I finally got home last night. By the time I dropped off Lulu and walked down the path to my granny flat, it was dark. Then a light came on from landlord upstairs...'be careful when you go down the steps Beth, I've been doing some work down there.' I had my arms full of stuff and just came to a dead stop! What the? I can't get to my front door! He's dug out all the rotten sleepers surrounding the bottom step of the path and my little porch. So I have to take a detour to get into my little place.
But I'm not complaining, I'm glad to be home. Doubly glad because it's stinking hot and there's a pool just out from my front door. After I go around the detour anyway. After restocking the fridge and pantyr, I got home, changed into my togs/swimmers/bathers and dove straight in...with my glasses on! So they sat on the bottom of the pool until daughter and grandson came over for a swim. I'm a cork in the pool. Can't for the life of me duck dive. Even when I got out and dove down to the bottom, I popped up like a cork before reaching my glasses!
Anyway, after becoming crook over the last few weeks, I'm thinking I won't do a long trip like that again. I've done more than 5,000kms, over 8 weeks! I pushed myself too much, and just fell in a heap.
But I really enjoyed seeing so many wonderful sights, meeting cousins in Vic, and getting a little fitter with all that walking.
Congratulations Beth, you finished the round trip. That was a lot of ks. Maybe time to put your feet up and relax for a while. At least you can say, you've been there and done that.
Yes, almost 6,000kms in 8 weeks! When I read that, I realise that it was too much for a not-so-well person. I'll recuperate and think about my future travels.
And when you are planning on going somewhere tell us if you want some company. I'd prefer to travel in tandem than just on my own. So as Sheba said, rest up, and then you can plan again.
Looks like the little car and van went well. Did you do the fuel figures to ant extent. I would be interested.I just got back from Cooktown, and it HOT, and humid. Its great to be on the road, But its great to be home, Also.Heading south in late january, all things being eqal. See you soon , Bill
Good on ya Beth, glad to see you are home safe and sound with the big adventure in your memory bank. I know what you mean about being like a cork, when I got in the lake here at Greens Lake it was like the sea parting and there was a beached whale. I hope to catch up with you when I head up that way around April'ish 2013.

Goodonya Beth! Exausting it may have been but you did it! You were brave enough to try, you drove all that way, saw all those sights, met all those people, and you have made wonderful memories. Be proud.
Well done Beth. Maybe you are exhausted because you were doing it to someone else's itinerary. Maybe next time you could do just as much but take twice as long to do it.
Thanks all. I do feel proud that I accomplished it.
I don't think I would travel with anyone else again, but rather meet up somewhere. Sis & bil were very accomodating but there were a few hitches.
At the moment, I still feel very tired and dehydrated from the UC. So I'll probably stay put during the summer.
Yes Bill, I did keep a record. It's up in the car so I'll get it later and let you know the figures. As you all know, I was rather nervous about the towing bit, especially on the mountains, but it all went really well, and Lucy surprised me with her ease of climbing mountains.
By the way, daughter and grandson came over for a swim, and grandson retrieved my glasses.
Back to the fuel figures Bill...I drove 5,902kms in 9weeks, using 576.88 lts of fuel, (mostly using unleaded 95), which cost me $1007.36. Using http://motormouth.com.au/myvehicle/consumptioncalculator.aspx which tells me my average was 9.77 L/100Km or 10.24 Km/L.
I mostly kept my top speed around 80-90kph in 4th gear, but it was often lower than that.
I'm happy with those figures.

Yes, I did Della and I'm paying for it now. I'm a bit crook, although improved a little. Back to tests and RBH next week. Never mind, I'll come good.
That's the way Beth. You did it. You enjoyed it (well, most of it) and you proved it. Keep staying positive. Sorry I missed out on meeting up with you.
Great fuel figures!I get less than 8 klms to the ltr on my block of flats, mostly between 80kph and 100kph. Its better if you go slower, but the traffic back up behind you.I hope you are feeling better. Its nice to just sit back and veg, after a long trip.Bloody hot and humid here. See ya soon, Bill
Thanks Ruth, I'm sorry about that too. Another time.
I'm pretty happy with those figures too Bill. The traffic build up can be a problem, but there were lots of overtaking lanes, and if not, I tried to pull over when I could to let them go.
I'm slowly getting better. Seeing my GP on Monday and an emergency appt with the specialist on Tuesday.
It's been damn hot here too, but today has been a little better. Of course, I'm sure it's a lot more humid up there Bill.
Sorry that the trip took its toll on your health. Travelling with others, no matter how well you get on, can be less than satisfying. We have rarely travelled with anyone else - and then only a solo friend who thinks like us re pace of travel, destinations etc. If the driver's health end up making me into a solo traveller, I would be very wary of travelling with others. But - this trip has served the purpose of giving you the confidence to branch out on your own, I think. And the knowledge to travel more slowly, spend more time in places so the activities can be spaced out and not be exhausting.
You will soon be planning where to go next! Take care.
Thanks Wendy. You're right of course. We didn't really do a lot of kms each day, but it still seemed to be go go go all the time. My thought now is that we just tried to pack in too much in the 9 weeks.
I've travelled with sis & bil many many times over the years, but not this sort distance. I think it better in future to travel alone and meet up with whoever at certain places. Lesson number 345! I've learnt so much on this trip.
I already have a vague idea of heading west next Autumn. Even though I've been west many times there are still places I haven't seen, and I have lots of cousins to visit.
