I now have about 6 containers ready for filling with spices. BUT!!!! I have tried everything I know to get all the lable off, have soaked, scraped, a bit reluctant to use the orange, eucalyptus type cleaners as it will damage the plastic. What have others tried???

Thanks all I tried eucy on one and as it was a soft plastic it seem to eat into it. Will try tee tree and see how that goes. The fisrt layer comes away easy but it is the gluey thin bit left....

I will be interested if you get a result Judy. I am collecting them too but they are back in Biggy. Must get some more down here. I tried to peel the paper off the ones up there and could see it wasn't going to come off easy.
I think the acetone will do more damage than any of the oils ibbo. I used to use it to clean VCR heads and you had to be very careful not to let it get on some plastics. I also saw the melted mess left when someone tried to clean the lens on their CD player. It totally destroyed the plastic lens.

I know it is either a friend or an enemy.I have recently used it to clean a remote control for my Sat.dish.No dice at first but two days later the remote is as good as new.The remote had been drenched in Grape Juice.Lol
Ibbo, the best thing to use on something you're not sure about is a 50/50 mixture of isopropyl alchohol and water, if you can get it. In a pinch, maybe the same with metho, but metho does leave a film. Acetone is risky on most plastics, and if you ever want to glue two pices of perspex together, you can mix acetone with ground up perspex to make a glue, and it virtually welds the two pieces together. That's how they used to stick the bung in the perspex nose cone on the old Canberra bombers when we could only get the replacement ones meant for a different version with a pitot probe in the front.
Edit: with remotes, if you can prize it apart without damaging it, wash it with warm water and window washing liquid at a fairly low concentration. Then rinse it with clean warm water, then after shaking out as much water as you can, dry it gently with a hair dryer. Never use any solvent (apart from the 50/50 iso) on the black pads of the membrane or you'll end up with sticky back spots where they used to be.

I peeled the top paper layer, then soaked for a few hrs in a little tee tree oil. Then washed in hot soapy water and used the non scratch scourer and the have come up ok.

Thanks Troopy. I take on board your very helpful info.I seem to recall in my navy flying days that the techs,used Tricoethylene or similar.................Time to go I can smell smoke outside.We live a heavily overgrown area with one road in or out.It is so dry .We have water frontage so if it turns really nasty my Tinny will be put to use.My dog is very uneasy,I guess he can smell the smoke as well.
