Just arrived here & was still wandering around to pick a spot to park when ranger arrived with a warning that a severe storm is expected later this afternoon. We decided to stay anyway but to not put our awning out. We've found a level spot with no trees overhead.
Absolutely loved that park on the high side. Stayed there for a week, met some wonderful people. Took a rather long stroll to the river and watched guys fishing. A very beautiful spot with good amenities.

I was under the impression that stays are limited to 48 hrs.
I stayed there, just a month or so back, very dry at the moment, fairly average camping really, i mean its much appreciated that its provided but seriously there was a squillion and a half vans all parked just inches from each other, nearly every second or thrird van was running a noisy generator (and the sun was shining away beautifully, like it does in Queensland) ANYWAY, I DIGRESS, there is a max stay of 48 hours BUT plenty of people are around spoiling it for the rest of us (give em an inch, they take a mile syndrome, I call it). Then don't get me started on those dirty european tourists that travel in bongo vans, sedans and just about every other form of transport, dancing around half naked and leaving their rubbish everywhere. Seriously, they turn up late, leave early..... Anyway, I digress again. Anyway, 48 hours MAX there, 24 hours is enuf. Make sure you pop into town and say hello to the folk there, spend a few $$$$ and let em know who you are.

I don't think anyone got you started on the "dirty European backpackers", you managed to do that all by yourself. I have had the fortunate experience of meeting quite a few european backpackers and to a person I have found them lovely. As I have said before on this forum I had some staying next door to me for 12 months and they only moved out when the house they were renting was sold and they were fantastic, I woud be proud to call them my own.
When two of them went back to Engand and Estonia for two months (boyfriend/girfriend) they even sent me a personalised card for Christmas as well as emails whilst they were away. When they returned the first thing they did was to call in with a few beers and see me.
They work their little tails off here doing fruit tree pruning etc and are here sponsored by their employer who also thinks they are terrific. Jobs I might add that the local kids don't seem to want a bar of. they earn good money but boy they work for it.
I agree about people overstaying their welcome but I take it that most of those are GN's not backpackers ( I also haven't met any backpackers with generators).
When you say there were a squillion and a half vans there I have to assume that somehow you weren't one of them.
Seriously though ( and I may well be shouted down for this), having read some of your previous posts is there anything you don't whinge about.
Maybe you were born old, but most of us can remember things we got up to a teenagers/early 20's and whilst not destructive or criminally inclined we got away with a few things, harmless to us but possibly upset a few narks.
There's probably a few spots left in the Simpson Desert that you can have all to yourself.
Cheers to all and a Merry Xmas (maybe there really is a Grinch)
Nice little personal attack there Jack. You shouldnt type anything your not prepared to say to my face you rude individual. You need to get off your high horse and READ what was written. I never said the Europeans were using generators. (Read what was written fool).
My other comment stands, I have cleaned up too often behind them !
I do agree with you though that its grey nomads OVERSTAYING time limits in free camps, the evidence is right here in this thread. As I said before too many people these days only consider themselves & don't give a rats rectum about anyone else.
Ohh and I've been to the Simpson a few times, its a great spot to avoid the crowds and plenty of space, but not at this time of year thank!
