Anyone remember Bandstand on TV with the host Brian Henderson?
A number of years ago I was listening to a radio station in Dubbo and the talk back host was Leo De Kroo, of the De Kroo Brothers who were on Bandstand. The other De Kroo Brother was not really a De Kroo, his name was Doug and previously had a band in Perth called The Red Rockets, he and Leo had teamed up to form a singing group.
In 1966 Leo married singer Judy Stone who a lot of you would remember although later divorced.
Here is a link to Leo and his early life and to his life today as a Guitar maker and farmer in the Dubbo area;
What memories of Bandstand. I remember when we got tele back in 1966, it was my favourite programme. Only thing was my Nanna use to come and stay with us on a Saturday night, and she would not allow me to watch it because it was the devils work. The end of society as we knew it. Use to have to wait until the weekends she did not come or Mum would distract her somehow and I could watch it. The tele had to be really low. I remember Little Pattie singing Bobby's Girl and Mum would sway to that as my Dad's name was Bob. Vic they are good memories and actually has given me another appreciation of my Mum, and how she quietly stood up to my Nanna. Must tell her today when I take her to lunch. She was stronger than I gave her credit for as my Nanna was an old B.....h.
Of course then as time progressed for me it was Young Talent Time. I was so in love with Rod Kirkham.
Thanks for the memories Vic. :)

No worries Sharon, yes how times have changed, Elvis was the devil himself according to some of the oldies, and when he swung his hips, gee that was pure filth in the same way we would view pornography today
See this link on pic's of Judy Stone, in particular the one of her as a granny today;
In the picture posted - were the females Noelene Battley and Gaynor Bunning? Gaynor would be the tall blonde - just that my dad used to say she could chew an orange through a tennis racquet with those teeth!!!!
Also - wouldn't the show hosted by JO'K have been "Six O'clock Rock" - or Sing, Sing, Sing - a later show he hosted - Brian Henderson hosted Bandstand.

Not sure who they are Julie, I only recognised the DeKroo Bros and Jimmy Little in that photo.
The De Kroo Bros were regulars on Bandstand, I would say they were only guests on JOK's show whatever it was called (in the photo).
I see Billy Thorpe in the link that Beth put on about Tony Worsley (can't remember him though), Billy was another legend, like his rendition of Somwhere Over The Rainbow......

He was always one of my favourites. He's been running Velvet Waters at Caloundra for many years. http://velve****ers.com/ As their ad says, 'the best rock & roll restaurant in Qld.'
Thanks for that. Just spent ages listening to Judy who I have always had a crush on and that site led into Roy Orbison and slim Whitman. Going back in for more. All great voices.
Heard Judy and little Patty at the club sometime ago, Judy still great, not so Patty.

I can't see anywhere on my original post or elsewhere that said he was being introduced by JOK on Bandstand
Only that Leo and Doug were being introduced by JOK on the link provided, not that it was from Bandstand.
Yes it is possible Beth that I was overseas either in the Army or RAAF (but not Navy) during that time, probably PNG where I had my 18th and 19th birthday but no TV there in those days where we were even if conditions allowed it...
No worries, unfortunately because of my service at a young age and being absent from civilized life quite often I missed out on some of the fun of youth and didn't keep up with who's who.
The missus often mentions some performer etc around the time I wasnt' around that I have never heard of!
Some more info on the De Kroo Brothers, Leo was a De Kroo and the info on his place of birth etc were correct. I don't know what Dougs place of birth was or his correct surname, but it was not De Kroo. See this link;

Hey Vic (Duh) I know you didn't say about JOK hosting Bandstand - but the post was about Bandstand - and I just thought I would mention that JOK hosted the other shows, sorry if anyone was confused - and on the same topic of remembering people - who remembers Bobby and Laurie - sang Hitchiker - Laurie is dead now, but Bobby is still going strong, from what I know.

I do remember that song Jules, catchy little tune it was too, loved the car noises in it and the way they dragged out the words "Hitch Hiker".
This is a link to Bandstand, only shows a few of the many people who were on it either regularly or as guests, Normie Rowe, Tom Jones, Delltone, Olivier Newton John, the list goes on and on. That photo on an earlier link, after reading this link below on some who were on the show I think the bloke with the big hairdo could have been Lucky Starr;
Thanks Jules. I have been trying to get some info on the DeKroo Bros and a google bought up that Doug De Kroo (or whatever his non stage name is) was teaching music at Caringbah in NSW, also he was part of a Blue Grass band playing bass guitar.
Our local council is chasing old photo's and history of Scarborough (WA, not Qld) particularly of the the Snake Pit as it was know (see the photo on Doug's link) and the old Luna Park at Scarborough.
In regards to Leo De Kroo, I grew up in the same street as him when we were kids (after he came out from Holland with his parents) and a bit later got him a solo gig playing for our work social in Leederville (Perth). It was after that he joined up with Doug, they called themselves the De Kroo Bros and went east later.

Hmmm.......a mispent youth !
I'm a bit the same with the seventies. Having 3 babies between '73 and '79, I reckon I was out of touch with the world outside of motherhood.
