The handles are very hard to access if not in larger cities.

We have helped people who's handle broke and they had great difficulty getting access to the van. Had to break into a window.

Not long after we could feel ours weakening so were very careful with it until we got to a spot where we could buy another. We just made it'

Another problem is that you often can only buy the whole lock and not just the handle part. Can get very expensive.

 Hi Guys, good advice.

Is the handle a Camec 3 point outer door handle that costs about $38.50 + postage?

You can find them online at www.ozvan.com.au with a quick google.

Bit of a bother tho if you can't get in the van to get your laptop.

And how soon would you expect the door handle to fail, 2, 5 10 years?

Good warning post, never thought of the door becoming useless because of the handle.

Cheers

ours failed after 8 years- luckily we noticed a crack and were within striking distance of a Jayco shop - but was a bugger to fix. Sure would hate to build a van from a spare parts shop.

If you regularly have grandchildren coming in and out you will need to replace much sooner we purchased from Jayco Canberra for 26.50 and spent 3 3/4 hours removing and replacing it may be that I am just a bit slow, I have fingers crossed that the one on this van lasts some time yet

I posted this

(I was In Longreach over the school holidays and broke the latch to our van. I saw a notice on the park board regarding Alloy replacement handles. I did ring the guy to find he was then in Charters Towers. Have subsiquently lost his number.

Does anybody happen to know of this chap or his contact number???

Can get plastic replacement handle but want the alloy one.

Dave H)

back in  july as I had broken the handle, still havnt found this chap so if any one knows of him please let us know.

I found it a bit hard, but not difficult to use a knife, spoon handle, screwdrive to lever the small part up to opem the door and then undid the 3 screwa and removed the mechanism and super glued the break and placed the handle on the side to fill in thew groves, left it for 6 hours and has nt looked like letting go!

Regards deadly dave

Not the handle on our motorhome door, but the locking mechanism - always use the house door, and leave the driving keys inside.

When we found we couldn't unlock the house door with the key - only solution was to take stuff out of the underbed storage from outside entry, I climbed through, very difficult pushing the bed up from that angle, but got in. Pulled lock apart the other day, may need whole new thing. Will investigate pricing online, now we know what we are looking for.

Not fun, not being able to get inside!!!!!!
