Positioning of Rego Labels on Vans

In NSW all trailer rego labels are to be located beside you registration plate in a holder. I beleive that they are doing away with the labels next year.

JC.

We have both posted at the same time.LOL.

Our last rego label, which was stuck onto the glass section of the door into the van, had all the colour section disintergrate on us due to the sun (could have been a bad batch maybe!) and before we attach the new label we would be interested where others 'stick' their rego labels.

In NSW it has to be near the number plate, I stick ours on the rear window, if there was no rear window I would need to attach a rego label holder near the number plate. In the near future NSW is doing away with rego stickers as they are no longer needed.

We are Queensland registered and we were told by the caravan dealer to put it in the glass section of the door.

The National requirement is:
Ref: VSB1

Trailers are required to display a registration label on the left hand side of the trailer. If there is no window in this location (such as would be found on a caravan), a registration label holder must be fitted on the left hand side of the vehicle.
(Refer to ADR 61/02 clause 9.2 for further information).

The relevent text of ADR61/02 clause 9.2 is:

9.2.
Label Holder
9.2.1.All vehicles, other than L-Group vehicles and TA category trailers having an overall width not exceeding 980 mm, which have no windscreen, must have a holder for the registration label affixed to their left-hand side in such a position as to be clearly visible to a person facing the holder at a distance of 6 metres.
9.2.2.For L-Group vehicles and TA category trailers having an overall width not exceeding 980 mm, a holder for the registration label must be affixed in a conspicuous position on the vehicle.

While NSW have seperate requirments (Next to registration Plate), if you conform to the National regulations you shouldn't have a problem.
Cheers, Ozjohn

PS> Mine is on the door window panel

Never knew that. Mine is registered in NSW but I always had the sticker on a side window.

For the price we pay here in NSW we should be able to put it anywhere....and I have a few suggestions where. devilish.gif

Ours will remain unregistered till we can afford it and the insurance.

Cheers

Jon

National requirements simply do not apply anymore and are now obsolete

South Aust and Western Aust no longer issue reg stickers and Im sure other states will soon follow suit

A good revunue raiser when people forget to renew biggrin

G'day everyone,

My caravan is registered in NSW and the label is stuck in the window portion of the door.

I found this on the NSW RTA website today,

Labels

Registration labels

You will be provided with a new registration label each time you establish or renew your vehicle registration.

The label should be stuck on the inside of the lower-left portion of the front windscreen or on a fixed glass panel on the left-hand side of your vehicle.

For caravans and other trailers with a rear facing window, the label may be stuck on the inside of that window in a position as close as possible to the number plate. Hinged windows displaying a rego label must be closed while the vehicle is being towed.

For all other vehicles, the label should be affixed on or adjacent to the vehicle's rear number plate without obscuring the vehicle's number plate characters.

Suitable label holders may be purchased from most automotive retail suppliers. Please note that the holder should not obscure the label in any way.

seems quite clear to me.

Hmm, now I am confused! Forgot to mention at the top of this thread that we are Queenslanders, so think I may look up/go into QDOT and try and find out what they say. However, I would like to thank everyone for your thoughts and suggestions.

I'm confused too. Found on the NSW rego site is the instructions listed below which differ from the national requirement. frustrated.gif but...I just noticed it does say 'may be stuck' so, a bit ambiguous maybe?

With all this concern about where a rego lable is located, has anyone received an infringement notice penalty for the where the lable is placed?

Alternatively, has anyone received an infringement notice penalty for not displaying a rego lable.

I have never received either penalty for any of my Vic reg. vehicles, however great attention is placed on reg plates with speed cameras and reg recogition cameras these days.

It seems it's only the parking officers that use a reg lable when booking you.

This topic has made me think, in over 30 years and having at times up to 100 vehicles, both family and company, registrations the reg lable has never been an issue. Some of my workers, some years, left the reg lable in the glove box but still got a speeding fine from cameras. Some of our work trailers never saw a reg lable, but the reg plate was always displayed on the rear.

Maybe this is just a little thing in life to ponder over.

Cheers

We are in Qld and you can display the sticker on the left hand front side of the vehicle (left of centre). I had ours in plastic label holder that was purchased from Supercheap/Autobarn/Repco and it was installed on the adjustment bolt on the gas bottle for many years. (Which was a legal location)

My son did get fined for not displaying the current registration label. Not sure but it was in excess of $100.00

It is now installed in a similar holder adjacent to the number plate.

Please not that it is advisable to fit the rego label to a new plastic holder each year as they do deteriate from the sun exposure and will disintegrate, you will then be up for the cost of a replacement label.

trailers having an overall width not exceeding 980 mm,(Thats a pretty narrow trailer Not much room for a fridge and bed.)

Extract from Qld Dept Transport noting fines.( It appears you can and will be fined if caught).

http://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/Registration/Registration-fees-and-labels.aspx

Extract from Qld Dept Transport "Registration Certificate" noting location of registration stickersPositioning of Label.

Trailers

The adhesive side of this label must be attached to the trailer so that all particulars on the label are clearly visible from outside the trailer. For trailers up to and including 4.5 tonnes, the label must be placed to the left nand side or rear of the trailer.

For trailers over 4.5tonnes the label must be placed on or adjacent to the trailers number plate (i.e. beside, above or below), be clearly visible from the rear of the trailer, and must not obscure the characters on the number plate.

This information (Position of Lable) can be found on the rear of all Rgistration Vehicle Certificates.

We don't have rego stickers here in SA which is a great idea. No more wondering where to put them or how to get them off after a year. We carry our rego papers with us, but not as was suggested by a police officer in the NT in our glovebox.

I was told by Queenland police officer you will not get fined for not displaying current rego sticker but could be fined for displaying out of date sticker , About 3 years ago when my new rego sticker arrived in the mail the instutions were that the sticker had to be displayed on the left hand side of the vechiles so I put mine on the drawbar been there for last 3 years

Just had a look at the 2012 Rego label letter from Qld Govt.

It says ..

"Failure to fix may result in a penalty of $80" (but the newly elected Govt. is looking for more revenue & may have increased this penality as it has done for similar offences).  Similar penalty for failing to remove expired labels.

"Trailers ....  The adhesive side of the label must be fixed to the trailer so that all particulars on the label are clearly visible from the outside of the trailer.  For trailers up to and including 4.5tons the label must be placed to the lefthand side or rear of the trailer.

For trailers over 4.5 tons the label must be placed on or adjacent to the trailers number plate (i.e. beside, above or below), be clearly visible from the rear of the trailer, and must not obscure the characters on the number plate."

In any case the back of the label is the sticky side on Qld trailer labels, so that they can only be stuck to the outside of any surface.

The motor vehicle labels that have the front of the label sticky so that it can be stuck as directed on the inside of the top left of the windscreen or on fixed or pivoted LHS windows.

I stick my Van label on the plastic panel of the entry door (its on the LHS side).

The 4WD label goes on the windscreen (have just realised that I have it incorrectly placed on the lower LHS & not the upper LHS as specified.

The above that you have posted must be a new location nominated by the department, as it was not on my renewal 2012 Certificate earlier this year.

We must have been posting at the same time.

When I was young and could not afford the rego when it was due I used to have it afixed to the bottom left of the windscreen of my car so, when driving unregistered, Id have the windscreen wiper obscuring the due month number. Worked till the year ran out and we got new coloured ones. police.gif

I got my information from the Van Rego certificate  .. I must qualify it by saying that it quoted "Conditional motor vehicles"  and also "Conditional motorbikes" .

An old 4WD rego certificate I found says "Lower Left Hand side of windscreen" etc.

I have now researched "Conditional"  and that refers to Conditional registration for "non standard vehicles not complying with standard regulations"  eg.  2-3-4 wheeled recreation vehicles, Tractors Graders etc.  Apparently it gives them compulsory third party cover.   Sorry about the confusion.

Clear now that the 4WD label is to be stuck to the lower LHS windscreen & not the Top as I stated previously.  (plus of course fixes glass on LHS)

Geez!!!furious Why cant this country have NATIONAL registrations!!!furious We have just moved from the ACT to NSW and you'd think we'd moved to a whole new foreign country, the drama we had to go through to change rego's.
Also had to change details with insurance companies, and the NRMA  required my partner to actually cancel his previous comprehensive car insurance policy and take out a whole new one in the state of NSW. Cant figure that one out. confuse My vehicle is insured with Allianz, who only required a phone call to update new details.

It was all done in a friendly polite way but with 2 vehicles a caravan and trailer it took ages. Now to go and put the new stickers on... looking up the previous posts for guidance.. thanks!smile
