Mitsubishi Outlander Dash Display Light On When Rear Hatch Open (up).

Just some feedback, I intend sleeping in the rear of my Outlander overnight but was concerned the dash display light remained on if I had the rear hatch open even with ignition/accesories turned off and key removed.

I was worried about my battery going flat overnight so took it to Mitsubishi servicing today to see if I could do something about it.

They said yes, like leaving an inside roof light on when hatch opened, the dash display will cause your battery to go flat too.

Anyway, they showed me how to use a screwdriver to lightly move the hatch locking catch to the locked position when up (very little effort needed) as that is wired to the dash electrics and now I can have the hatch in the up position without draining the battery overnight. To return the catch to the unlock position so I can close the hatch all I have to do is depress the normal lift depress tab on the outside of the hatch, then I can close it normally.

I hope this makes sense, may or may not be applicable to your particular vehicle.

FYI.

That light will possibily show as well when the tailgate is only on the first catch of the closed possition, same as a door not closed properly you get a dash light to advise you of the situation.

I did try that JC (for the tailgate) but the light wiring is only connected to the top hatch which folds over the tailgate and will not go off until the mechanism on the top hatch strikes the striker on the bottom tailgate, which then turns the mechanism electrics on the hatch to the off position.   So by doing what I was told to do mimics the closed mechanism as though it had closed after striking the striker on the tailgate if that makes sense and no dash light shows for the rear hatch or tailgate.

Mine is a bit like the old Holden Station Wagons, the top half (hatch) opens upwards and covers about 2/3rds of the rear opening, the bottom tail gate about 1/3rd.   The dash light only shows if the top half (hatch) has not made contact with the bottom striker.
