A lot depends on where else you are going, if you want to go north I would go up the west coast of WA, or head north through the centre after tranversing the Nullabor.....
Very general indicator, north over winter, south in spring/summer....
thanks for the info have travelled around and across a few times but always seem to hit head winds will go across then over to east coast via broken hill and then come down centre but if winds not favorable for that time of year will go up west coast then down centre
A seach of GN will bring up several interesting and informative previous threads on the Nullabor and elsewhere, just click on the search heading on the blue line and then type in what you are interested in.
This is one of several GN threads on the Nullabor;
It is my firmly held belief, based on experience, that wind across the nullarbor blows both directions at once. How else can you explain that no matter which way I go I always have a head wind?
The pnly time we got strong wind crossing the Nullarbor it was coming from the south so it didn't make a difference either way.
From all my reading before I drove it I found the wind can be from any direction at any given time but, there seems to be a slightly more popular consensus in favour of it being better to drive from west to east.
Best to look at where your driving too and see what seasons and times you will be at or passing through destinations and pick the most suitable direction from that. ie: It would be best not to drive up north during the wet season in summer and you may prefer to drive the south coast in the warmer months. Also you may want to coincide your visits to certain towns with festivals etc.
Cheers
Jon
