Blown engine in Port Hedland

Well what a day, understatement really. Over headed the engine  70km before port headland. Had all the low water level and over temp alarm fitted but it burst a hose under the turbo, low level alarm failed and the rest is history. Have been flatbedded to the Overflow area at the portheadland golf club and awaiting further info on flat bedding to broome tomorrow. It seems the RAC will cover the cost of vehicle recover at this point but not the van. It seems like that is going to cost me $1650 for the honor. Better that than the $3500 for the vehicle and the van

cheers

So sorry to hear this Blaze, what a nightmare for you and Mrs Blaze! How come it cant be fixed in Pt Headland? They do all kinds of work there on mining trucks, surely yours cant be too hard?

Very sorry to hear that, Blaze.

I know the hose you mean, it is only about 3" long and 1" diameter and is hidden behind the turbo where it doesn't get checked.  I ordered a complete set of hoses from the UK last year and they failed to send that one, so I had to source one locally.

Just a thought, if you were to ask on the other forum that I see you posting on, there may be someone in the area who could help you with towing your van in.

Good luck with it all,

Dave

Sorry to hear it blaze, who the heck or what did you run over ?????

You'll laugh about this further down the track, but what a lousy run you've had!

We'll keep our fingers crossed for you for the rest of the trip!

Robert.I found myself in a similar situation years ago.Local publican told me to try the various Transport yards, you often get a truckie who is willing to carry you.The back loading helps with their fuel costs and is a lot cheaper than being towed or flat topped.Just a thought.Good luck.

blaze, sorry to hear about your problem, but wouldn't it be cheaper to get the your tug fixed in PH, would be more expensive in Broome I would have thought.

agree with ibbo, look around the trucking yards, ask in a few auto repair workshop if anybody know somebody who maybe able to help with transporting you tug

basic story in most remote wa towns is that if you drive a landie we may fit it in next month, just maybe. We are now in broome. Rac footed the bill for the vehicle and we paid for the van. Happier now we are set up on site, home for at least 12 months. I am going back on the tools again so one way or another I will get it done by the guys I am working for. The company I am working for did offer there recovery truck for cost but because the trip was 2 way then it was more than I paid. Have a new engine organised just have to organise the logestic of frieght
Thanks for all your offers of support and sugestions.
cheers

Glad you are at your destination and will be able to fix things from your home base.

I would hope the extra cover I have with the RAC would include the caravan, it says it does, also a longer tow etc.

I have the top cover vic, ultiment +. They covered the cost of the van on the first day which was 72km. There is lots of buts when the hard questions are asked. The cost to get the vehicle to broome was $3500 which they covered so I am grateful for that and I have really got my membership covered

cheers
