It is cruel, unforgiving country in those areas, and I certainly would not want to die that way. Ya gotta feel for his family and mates.
However, I must have missed something. These two were apparently out checking a bore - therefore one would assume they were "at work". If that were the case this statement in the news article is dumbfounding - "Wearing thongs, singlet and no hat, Mr Hayes......"
I hope something comes out of the coronial inquest regarding why they were out there in those conditions dressed like that - if they hadn't the nouse to dress appropriately, surely their 'bosses' should have.
Anyway, a tragic end to what probably should have been a 'routine day' for them.

The tv news report that we saw about this included an interview with someone from the station where they were employed. He said they had communication devices (cant remember whether he said sat-phone or radio or both) and was aghast that they hadnt been used to call for help.
Who knows what was going through their minds? But a big lesson to everybody who hears about it... stay with your vehicle!
