They were working on a bore - wouldn't common sense say to take some water when they decided to walk ??? Working out there, you would think they, or at least one of them, would have known better!!! Sad, but common sense must prevail over all!!

Jules there are a lot of backpackers working on these stations kepting the bores working , The problem being they do not understand what can go wrong and station owner think everyone know what you need to do in the outback to stay safe .
he is actually from w.a. and an experience bushy, well a sort of enviromentalist. very sad but as you say, what was he thinking sorry for the family and he only had 12k's to walk. 3 hrs max, i believe they were slack during the day (hot) and never drank enough so were half dehydrated before they left.
It's a terrible but avoidable tragedy but it raises the question we should all ask ourselves... what would we do in similar circumstances... not what we know we should do but what we would actually do.
Our thoughts and decisions are guided as much by emotional processes as they are by logical ones. Why do we all sometimes make incredibly bad calls??? Something to ponder.
