People complain about the noise generators make but have owners of campervans and similar with sliding doors listen to the noise created when sliding open then shut the door?

They wiz when opening or shutting then, BANG.
I have noticed in my short time travelling that in the quiet of night the noise is really loud and wakes you up and if there are two people it's double "wizbang" Maybe the new generators aren't so bad after all.

I know what you mean Doug, but its something that doesn't worry me. I have slept in truck stops, woke in the morning and wondered "When did all those trucks come in, I didn't hear them" I like a little noise aroound, just like I like having a little light coming in as well. Total darkness gives me the creeps, as does total silence. So I won't track you down, you are safe.
Unfortunately Doug the door needs some momentum to close properly, hence the wiz-bang, nature of the beast.
Most will try to limit the number of times they have to leave their vans at night, have porta potties or similar to use until morning.
Best is if possible not to park near them or for a wiz-bang to try to park away from others. My attitude is if I am trying not to leave/enter the vehicle in quiet times unless necessary, then it is unfortunate but others will just have to live with it, I didn't design the vehicles.
Some caravan owners have their TV's blaring at night watching late movies without and consideration for other, or bang their caravan doors at night, noisy winding up of legs before dawn, starting up and backing up of vehicles, hitching up etc to try to get early starts, so it is a bit of give and take on all sides.
For a while there I didn't understand the sliding door part because we have a campervan but not the vans you are talking about..lol Sorry. I'm new to this..lol
I haven't come accross much that annoys me but a time where a group gathered together for drinks in a national park...All new and just met that night...and started swearing and letting bangers off. God knows what they were up to..When the ranger came the next morning it was a funny sight..Half the camp ground approached the ranger and told them about the noise. They were black band for the national parks for a while.
So other than that nothing bothers us. I know noise travels at night and I always try and be considerate but I suppose you get the odd one that spoils it for the rest.
Most of the noise could be eliminated IF people were to lubricate the roller bearings & clean out the grit that falls into the bottom guide rail.As for not parking near them, they come in at all hours of the night & park under your awning. Just recently I saw a girl open & close the door FIVE times without even taking her hand off the door handle, & they wonder why we dont like them.

HA HA HA Doug, I thought you would have copped it from both sides, and I do understand where you are comming from but as we all know consideration of others SHOULD be our first most thought. The problem is that some people, just don't think..........P.S. Throw some bird seed on their foof top....ha ha ha ha

Yes some are very considerate and I should have mentioned that it does seem to be those hippy looking hire ones. I reckon they just don't think. I also agree that some CV owners make a racket at times. Me, well I try very hard to think of others at all times, I even use earplugs on the TV if I wake up early and decide to turn the TV on.
that is bloody silly having earplugs in when watching tv, how do you hear the tv? or do you only watch silent movies?
We have been very fortunate as every time a camper van has parked next to us the owners have been very considerate and have made very little noise. we probably made more noise than them.

I wish it was that easy, but it's not. I always kept mine clean and lubricated (either CRC/WD40 or Silicone spray) and it still made noise.
I always did my best to keep my door closing/opening to a minimum and tried not to park too near people, even asked at caravan parks if used to put me away from others (not always possible if limited bays available).
I think most of the frequent door opener bangers that I saw were hire/backpacker campervans. As I said, also some very inconsiderate caravan owners around too with noise and yappy dogs, so once I have taken as many precautions as I could with my campervan, then it is stiff to anyone who wants to complain, I had as much right as they did to be where I was.
1. I own a "whiz-bang". 2. It's free country. 3. I am cognizant of the fact it does make a disturbing noise and try to limit as much as possible around others, esp. at night. 4. I agree the main point is consideration of others, and that applies in many situations. 5. My "whiz-bang" gets me to places I'd never get to otherwise - I am not giving it up.

I did at one time own one of those fine recreational vehicles.The secret to silencing the sliding door was to put your palm and push gently whist either opening or closing the door.There is no such thing as a quiet generator,they should be left at home in the shed.Except of course if I am using one.LOL.Kiama?The Banditos have a chapter down that way.

Ibbo, have tried that gentle pushing too, but doesn't close mine properly, so if you want to lock it for security or to stop rain and insects coming in a partly closed door the momentum is the only way mine works to properly close it. I have had 3 campervans, and all have been the same. (as well as two camper trailers, two caravans and a borrowed Toyota Coaster and the odd tent).
One caravan park manager who allocated me a site when I asked to be located away from others, said you have as much right to be here as anyone else, so don't worry about it. And that is my attitude too as long as I am trying my best not to annoy others (or them me whatever their mode of RV), so get over it! Another thing I do if I find I am put alongside someone is to face my door away from them (on the other side) to reduce the door noise. Not much you can do if they are on both sides of you though in an allocated spot.
