Advice On Use Of 12V Oscillating Fan Using Vehicle Battery Only When Parked

Can anyone tell me please how long I could safely use a 12V 7W 7inch Oscillating Fan in my Mitsubishi Outlander when parked (motor off, using on auxillarly socket only on vehicle crank battery only).

Because of weigth considerations I do not want to carry an additional battery.

I only want to use it for a short period when parked overnight then moving on next day.

G'day Vic

 

I use to run 3x 8 watt fluro's of a motor bike battery with no problems at all

she would start up no problems in the morning

that was 3 times from what you are pulling out of your battery

so I would safeley say atleast 5 hrs a night mate

I do have a 1200W jump starter that says if fully charged I could get about 13 hours for a 9 watt fan, but it is very heavy and would prefer not to carry it due to weight etc.

 The load and weight in my car, not holding it.  Because of limited space I am trying to eliminate the need to carry too much.

If I can get limited use of the fan during overnight stops off the crank battery without flattening it I will be happy with that.

 Thanks for that Jim, I didn't know there was such a thing!

I do have a multi meter hidden in the junk in my shed that someone gave to me but I have never used, so could find that and use it if I had to but like the convenience of the one shown without having to lift the bonnet.

How long is a piece of string? It depends on the size (amphour capacity, probably an unknown quantity) and general condition of the battery. I'd be inclined to carry the jump starter just in case you "stretch the friendship" with car's battery.

A voltmeter (eg a multimeter) would be handy to check the battery to ensure you're draining too much. One of these may be handy...http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=QP2220
